The things you learn in here. I have lived here for 25+ years and have never heard of the Polish deli. Mattern’s is walking distance, done it many times, and pretty darn authentic. IMO though, Pacific Ranch Market makes better sausages.
I am planning to bake some focaccia breads, maybe a few other things too.
My wine preferences seem to be getting some abuse. I am in the “delicious” camp. That means keep your horse dung out of my wine, keep your vegetables in the frig, and most especially, acid is NOT a flavor. Simple. But, for reasons that still elude me, I still try it all.
See you all Saturday.
I’m with Eldon: There’s a Polish deli nearby? Where’s the Costco? Who knows. . . maybe one day, one day far, far, away, I may move to the fine city of Orange and find out for myself! And yes to what Cris said, there’s nothing to see in the wine section of Pacific Ranch Market. Just move along folks. . .
I just picked up some bockwursts from Mattern’s, so we’ll get a chance to sample their wares at least. Personally, I love Mattern’s sausages. If Pacific Ranch’s are better, I’m ready, willing and able to be convinced. I hope someone brings some.
I’m looking forward to this, Eldon. See you tomorrow evening.
Francine has made a chicken dish she says is “spicy”, so I’ve loaded up a chilled 2007 Dönnhoff Kreuznacher Krötenpfuhl Riesling Spätlese (WA 95) to pair with it. I’m also bringing one of Eldon’s personal favorites, a 2004 Two Hands Bella’s Garden Shiraz (WA 94/WS 95 and #10 of the 2006 Top 100). I’ll throw a couple beers in the bag for Francine and a Spanish Cava to share as well.
As much as I wanted to be in Berserker uniform (cargo shorts and T-Shirt) for this, with the weight loss, my cargo shorts just won’t stay up so I’m going to have to be sporting golf shorts!
Thanks (again) to Eldon and Clara for hosting such a fun filled event! Great to see Brad again and mingle with wine friends. The food was delicious - meat mania in fact! Really good. And for dessert, smores were a great idea, thanks Francine!! A perfect evening with wine, food, friends. . .and lizards
