NYC offsite storage : any recent experience with MWC?

All,

I would love to hear if people here have had any recent experience with MWC.

Background: Currently I store wines at Domaine and those who have used Domaine would know that Domaine charges per locker, in increments of 10 cases. A lot of my wine is in solid cases of 6x750 ml and Domaine has said that they are going to count that as a full case. Given most of that wine is in OWCs/ OCBs, I don’t want to consolidate it.

So I am thinking of getting secondary storage at MWC. In the past they did not have space at their Clifton facility but have now built a new facility in Ramsey, NJ. MWC also charges in increments of 10 cases but they count a case as 9 liter of wine. So if you have two 6x750ml cases, it gets counted as one 9 liter case (or any other combination of 9 liter ). So that makes it a better storage option for half cases.

I just wanted to get feedback from people who have used MWC before going ahead with them.

Thanks a lot.

I don’t but several friends are happy with them and I trust Marc Hanes.

And if you visit Ramsey you can go to the Bottle King and get pizza and egg creams at Kinchleys

MWC is good. There is the occasional issue but they always fix it to your satisfaction, which is what really matters. I wouldn’t have any reservations about using them.

Thanks Jay. Marc has been great.

Thanks also for the recommendations.

I’ve been at MWC for a number of years and have had no issues. Happy with their service and responsiveness.

Use MWC as my primary offsite—another vote in support here.

Thanks all for chiming in with your experience.

This is great and super helpful.

I store quite a bit of wine there and I am very happy. Most of it is German, a lot of it is rare hard to decipher stuff. Marc and Steve go out of their way to input everything correctly and compare against invoices.

I also like that I can send wine to the retail store for me to pick up because I don’t have a doorman and have a crazy schedule.

I store with MWC, nothing but good experiences.

I also store at MWC. Marc Hanes who posts here is very competent. There have been occasional mistakes on classification or vintage of bottles but easily corrected.

Has Domaine changed policies? When I stored with them, their Locker sizes were based on how many of THEIR lay flat boxes could fit in the locker … however much would fit in the locker was up to you in terms of how you boxed it.

I have clarified it with them a couple of times and that’s what they have told me. In fact very clearly spelled out via email.

Hi Dinesh, thanks for the dialogue on our services and looking forward to helping you enjoy your wine collection going forward. After some time of operating with a new client waiting list, MWC is very excited to have our second facility up and running so we can accept all comers!

Marc, thanks for patiently clarifying all my questions. Looking forward to getting going.

For others in the future looking for storage I can’t recommend Marc and his team more highly.

Is anyone able to recommend an NYC area storage facility that offers private lockers? I’m looking to hold maybe 10 - 15 cases somewhere but don’t love the traditional model where they manage inventory and pickups are pre-scheduled. I want the ability to go fondle my bottles when I’m feeling lonely. Any suggestions area appreciated!

Happy with Marc Hanes and his team.

Be VERY wary of VinoVault.:eyes::grimacing:

All my friends who use MWC are very happy with them but I don’t think they offer private lockers?

Mana wine in Jersey City does. I use their offsite storage but I occasionally run into one of their private locker customers and they say they are happy with it.

Hey Jesse, as Jay said (while I have never seen them) Mana is supposed to have some private lockers as you describe. The only other place I know anywhere near NYC is in Livingston, NJ. Self Storage Units in Livingston, NJ 07039 | The Lock Up Again, never been there myself even though I don’t live that far away.

The last place to offer lockers on a broad basis was the ill-fated Chelsea Wine Storage, quite a few members of this forum were there. I have never ran the numbers myself but have to assume, with real estate being what it is, it is just not profitable in NYC. Why it is in, say, Los Angeles or San Francisco, I don’t know.

Maybe someone with a dollar and a dream will open a locker-centric wine storage facility in (somewhere convenient) NYC.

Mana Wine in Jersey City offers some private lockers. Though their operating hours aren’t the most convenient
