Yes I have 1 spot if you want to come Shan

I’ll take it! Unfortunately no 2017s at home, but I have a 2007 Bruno Clair Clos de Beze that seems somewhat on theme that I’ll bring. Hopefully it’s entered the zone.

That’s a fun bring, Shan.

We like 2007s these days. We like them a lot.

Great evening, thanks for organizing Michael.

My WOTN was the 2017 Mugnier musigny.

Other notables include the Krug 1990, rousseau CDLR and charmes 2017.

Second that John. Michael, 2017 theme was perfect. Thank you for organizing! Was a treat to explore different burgundy tracks. Horizontals of lovely producers and vineyards (and fun formats) focused mostly on Cote de Nuits. Definitely picked up a pattern in the ones that resonated. Nick thanks for guiding through flights. Too much goodness to remember.

Great company, food and wine. Fun to see old friends and meet new ones.

Thanks for putting the event together Michael, 2017 is a truly excellent vintage based on the wines we had yesterday. I’m amazed that there was only 1 corked bottle but many great wines. The Mugnier Musigny was just spectacular with all the Rousseau’s showing really well esp CDLR and Charmes (with some air), Nick deserves some love on organizing the flights in the mist of what can become complete chaos. So happy to meet some new people and see many familiar ones sharing in the love of Burgundy.

@MChang a great event and @Nick_Christie for organizing the flights and pours throughout the night! It worked really damn well!

I was blown away by the quality of the 2017s. They continue to flesh out on the upslope (will their eventual downslope be as rapid?). The Faiveley Cazetier is smoking value ($75 in the UK!). I loved the 2004 Groffier Amoureuses - another smoking QPR for $350 at auction. The line of up 2017s from Dujac, Mugnier, Fourrier, Rousseau and others was beyond excellent - very generous shares :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:. The 2009 Arlaud Charmes was excellent and bodes well for the direction of more recent vintages. A drop of the moose was good too!

A mag of Comte Liger-Belair was another generous share - love the emblazoned OWC! 1988 d’Yquem scratched off a bucket list wine (although I wish I could revisit sober!). I think these events are great opportunities to open the sweets, and I’ll look to contribute next time.

Starting with blinds was really fun, and I will contribute to that next year as well! Speaking of which… Goodfellow Bezerker Cuvee… @Marcus_Goodfellow … had folks TWISTED UP… no one called Oregon… although some were just afraid to speak up because it wasn’t as good as the Amoureuses poured blind before it  The Goodfellow blind brought up the event from a few years ago when the Goodfellow wines held their own against a variety of Burgs from strong producers on a single blinded basis.

For misses, I’d put my 2007 Bruno Clair Beze squarely in the bottom third of wines. Maybe it just needs more time? I had double decanted in the AM to give air, but it didn’t unlock the vivaciousness of the above wines or Beze complexity. I don’t like 2017 Hudelot Noellat… they have fleshed out, but still lack the charm of other 2017s.. so my own couple of bottles will go to winebid. I didn’t love the Bernstein either, although for different reasons than I expected: I expected a gloppy mess, but instead found it leaner than the other 2017s at the table.

Such a pleasure meeting so many new likeminded wine lovers! Thanks for being welcoming to a newcomer. Was super impressed with how the 2017s are drinking across the board. I actually dug the Bernstein, was pleasantly surprised by it. The Mugnier was absolute magic, though my favorite for the night was the Fourrier - thank you @Dan_A !

Looking forward to seeing folks at the next dinner, and hope to see you all in the K&L Shop in NY sometime soon. Myself and my buddy Ben Niedelman, (formerly of Tribeca WM), would love to welcome you all with a splash of something tasty (maybe some more old Armagnac)!

I also mentioned to a few folks that we’re looking to start a series of convivial BYO dinner parties at restaurants across in the city, and I’ll be sure to post them on here in case anyone wants to attend.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to Michael for organizing — the 2017 Burgundy lineup was extraordinary. Loved the 92 Vilmart and the 98 d’Yquem was an absolute treat. As a newcomer, I was a little unsure what to expect, but everyone was incredibly warm and welcoming from the moment I walked in. A memorable evening indeed! Hope to join again for the next event.

Agree with all, thank you Michael for organizing and it was great to meet everyone (especially the sport coat crew) at the end of the night.

Had an incredible time last night and really great meeting all the local NYC Berserkers.

Did anyone happen to keep track or write down everything we got into? Would love to revisit the full lineup.

Not much more to add. A Fantastic night with a great theme and well played out by everyone’s amazing brings from the champagne starters through the d’Yquem finishes. Thanks Michael and Nick and to all the folks whose company is just as stellar as the wine they share.

Oh, the Tellier was a 2021 Extra Brut Massales. Which I believe is a Grand Cru in Champagne.

A real jolly good affair.

Beyond the wines - the most pleasure came from meeting new folks and catching up with old friends. What a crew.

Many thanks @MChang for all the time and energy (and wines) to make this happen!

Extra applause for @Nick_Christie’s valiant wrangling.

Such an educational spread. Everyone says 2017 is for early drinking, for my taste, there is a lot still to gain.

2017 Olivier Bernstein Charmes-Chambertin was my '17 of the night (my first of the producer’s wines) until @Alex_Valdes ruined everything with his magnum of 2017 CLB NSG. Curses, Alex. Curses.

Everyone else has more intelligent things to say about the Burgundies than I will, so thoughts on rest:

Very pleased with my '92 vilmart mag, a little must blew off and a really lovely, lively and complex little thang was underneath. I had been trying to think of something that would be the right weight to have through red burgs and this did well.

Likewise the 2005 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese which was fire. There should always be Riesling at Noreetuh and knowing the 05 Y’quem was coming I thought a vintage pair would be fun. The Prum for me is at its peak - primary and developed notes strung together with great acidity, though the Y’quem still the “better” wine.

The 2018 Bereche Ambonnay stood out as a refreshing delight. Great lime and gentle spice interplay here.

@robertl - the 2017 Goodfellow BC as a blind was the perfect level of trickery.

2021 Extra Brut Massales, I did not take a note, but remember it was enjoyable.

@TomZacharia, the trifecta of 1990 Krug (such a gentle beauty), 2005 Y’quem (fireworks), and 1932 Armagnac (alien yet embracing) you assembled on 12hrs notice was wonderful. Hope to see you around more.

All that aside - the DOTN were the brace of Gunnesses @Roh1tGupta and I had next door. These restorative ales wiped away any ill humors and left me in very chipper disposition the next morning. @Dan_A, take note!

Cyprien said he brought a 3L of the 2009 Charmes to the gala dinner, as he thought it was showing well. A nice bring!

Glad you enjoyed it, it was showing well when I opened it, the fact that Cyprien chose to show the same bottle in 3L makes me feel pretty good.
