NYC - May 6th Blind Wine Tasting Dinner

Still in.

My wife, if she is on the list, is out. She has a conflict. So if there was a seat for her, someone else can have it.

I have not decided what I am bringing, but since it’s a secret, you’ll have to wait to see. If anyone has any preferred choices of region, let me know and maybe I can accommodate.

I’d suggest the martian wine you offered. But if that’s off the table, french is my vote!

I used to have a Finger Lakes wine made by Laotian refugees. The name of the winery was Khemer. Needless to say, it was a white wine.

@PeterB - sorry to bail last minute but I am not feeling so hot today. Woke up and hoped it was just sinus/ allergies but as the day goes by my throat is bothering me more and more.

You are going to have to take my word for it, but I wasn’t bringing an obscure Italian white!

Have a great evening everyone and sorry again.

Feel better!

I could not find the wine from Mars, but I have two interesting items. Decanted at about 230 and then poured back into the bottles about an hour later.

I have someone to fill the empty slot. Long story collection of 18 different catastrophes on my part today. I will explain when I get there.

Have fun everyone!

Thanks for hosting Peter. It was a blast as always. I cannot believe how many curveballs there were!

Thanks for bringing the WOTN!!! 1995 Cheval Blanc, wow!

An excellent dinner. My WOTN was the GC Chablis, which I found to have all of the positive characteristics of Chablis PLUS a floral component on the nose and fruits - primarily tropical - on the palate. This sounds weird, but to me it was an excellent GC Burg with the positive aspects of an excellent Germain Riesling added on top.

I hate cell phone photos, but I did not lug my real camera. This is the best that I could do in Photoshop with the ugly image I started with. Needless to say, the fact that I tasted all of these and then forgot to use the flash might have something to do with it.

.

I want to do this again! My preference is in favor of the last format - two wines of the same grape - rather than two wines of the same region, but this was just fine. If we do it again, I have some fun stuff lined up to rick everyone.

Thanks again for a wonderful evening Peter and everyone else for the great wine and conversation. The cheval blanc was definitely at the top but the condrieu and the Chablis were also truly delicious. Blind tasting was also educational and humbling as always.

I forgot the Condrieu. It was outstanding. I have had better bottles of that Guigal, and I preferred the GC Chablis, but that Condrieu is one of my favorite whites and it did not disappoint.

Does anyone have the details on the Chablis? I think it was a Moreau Les Clos, but I am not sure and I do not know the vintage.
