I locked in my choices. Its going to be a fun pair.
I am not +2. My wife can’t come and my other person is probably also out but I will check in the am. I think I have a 1976 and a 2002 of the same Burgundy. I’m guessing that the 1976 is DOA, but ya never know.
I see that there is no wait-list.
Could I take over one of the spots that remain after Jay’s+2 dropped?
yes, we have room for one more. Would love to have you assuming you can source the two wines required in such a short period of time.
Yes I’ve had a pair of bottles waiting for an occasion like this. Same vineyard, same grape, same producer, two vintages.
Excellent, see you tonight.
With a tiny bit of luck, I will have a 1976, a 2002 AND a 2017 of the same wine from the same vineyard. It appears that the negociant from 1976 is gonzo. The elevage is now being done by someone else, but close enough for government work, and it is insurance against the possibility that the 1976 is DOA.
Jay… you know the point of this is a blind tasting, right?
Well, at least I’ll get one of my guesses right tonight.
I bet Jay is trolling. He’s going to bring something entirely different than what he is saying here.
AND where did you see me telling you what Grand Cru DRC I was going to bring three bottles of? If you are practicing for a sommelier exam and can’t tell the difference between a current vintage and a 50 year old bottle of La Tache, you should drink beer.
Oh crap. I’ve been found out!
I can hear his voice when reading this…
FYI the Jay rule is in effect tonight. 33% max talking Jay!
I can’t go over 10% because you will take up 90%.
I have the third bottle of La Tache.
Awesome. Thank you @PeterB.
Pegau ftw!!!
That was over the top. Thank you everyone for bringing fantastic wines and thanks @PeterB for organizing. Anybody got an official lineup photo/list?
Thanks again Peter. As expected, a really good event. A nice spread of wines across vintages and eras. I learned a lot - including how much harder it gets to identify wine after drinking 30 of them.
Oh man. By the end I could still tell a red from a white, but that’s about it. Great wines all around. Loved the Maybach and the Special Club Champange. I clearly prefer younger wines to older, but there were some very nice older ones all around. I’ll start working on a date for the next one.
Thanks @PeterB for hosting, it was a great time as always. A lot of wine was spectacular. My favs were the pagau and madonna del piano.
I was most shocked by the 1990 insignia. It drank so young! I’d be curious to try that wine again in 10-20 years.
