Newbie Baloobie

Freshmen fifteen is kind of perfect.
I thought @Charles_Perry had some very good suggestions. I especially liked launchpad, or maybe just “Newbie Launch”.
I also thought “Nouveau” & “Crush” from @Jay_B could be a fun wine-oriented descriptors for newbies
Another term that seems appropriate is “neophytes”.
Stotter nails it, as always!
The Freshman Fifteen
I would propose against all newbies being in the same time slot and here is why. If they are indeed new to many of us we will need more time to read their release letter and do some basic background searching on them; like reading cellar tracker notes on their wines in the offer or checking their web sites. If they are sprinkled around that may be easier but then again the flip side to that is they may get buried against better known participants for BD.
it would be a launch group of 30 minutes, like the rest of them, and I think I want to try it this time, see how it works. BerserkerDay is always a ‘fluid’ event, trying to find what works best as it continues to grow like crazy…
Also, with regards to CT notes and the like, our BerserkerDay Committee members @Siun_O_Connell and @Patrick_Taylor as well as CT-WB posting master @brigcampbell are helping them integrate these notes directly into the posts, as well as the newbie tasters who are the ones who tried the wines and ‘voted them in’ - you’ll see their notes as well, in the offer/post
Beauty of being MC, I’ve already done my research and have the 3 newbies I’ll be targeting.
Ah, good point…yes, the list of Newbies that will be selling is shown in Monopole Cru

Newbies Be News
Contrarian view: that only resonates with the inside baseball folks. If the goal is to highlight new producers to as many participants as possible, I would suggest everyone knows what a Newbie is and what Spotlight means and will readily recognize even in the fog of war that is BD. Freshman Fifteen could easily be a new pet-nat from OR.
I’m with Russell on this one. Newbie Spotlight gets right to it; anything else is wordsmithing.
What About First Time Fifteen . . .
How about just Newbie Hour? Works better if they had a full one hour launch slot…which would address Jeff’s comment above, but may not be viable given the time constraints of the day.
I can’t do a full hour on BerserkerDay - or for sure Newbie Hour would be the choice.
I think The Freshman Fifteen is hilarious, but see the points made above on it - to me, it has nothing to do with baseball, rather, it’s about the fifteen pounds most freshmen in college gain!
#firsttime15 . . .
You are correct, it has nothing to do with baseball. It is the vernacular referring to those active here on WB being “in the know”.
Ok, I’m starting the arduous process of setting up launch times (using a random sequence generator, of course) and it looks like I could easily do a Newbie Hour at noon Pacific, as that would be the last launch group. Not ideal for newbies to wait until then (although being thrown in the shark tank in an early spot could be super overwhelming) but smart to give that extra time as well - thoughts? I like it, actually, really makes sense. They are new so they won’t go gangbusters alongside some BerserkerDay favorites, and this gives ample time for research on those of us (myself included) who dedicate some BerserkerDay $$ to Newbies to find that next favorite winery
I’m sure I’m in the minority here, but Newbie to me can have a negative connotation under certain circumstances. Being the internet and all I’m not sure I would use that term. For instance It might insinuate that the producer is a newbie to wine, instead of this site.
I think straight forward is the way to play it, especially if you are trying to draw new traffic that just might get the whole thing.
Just the simple, Exclusive Thread: First Timers to BD 15
Not very fun I know
we’ve used it for 4-5 years already! I do think most say something in the start of their posts (for those who haven’t been to many BerserkerDays as a buyer) that indicates they are ‘newbies to BD15’ - also, if I do the hour slot, I can make an announcement which will help
