New York City, aka Manhattan and the boroughs BYO

Great thread to follow!
I wanted to share a new directory that is growing daily with corkage policy details - http://www.corkagefeed.com
I am one of the cofounders and look to continually keep our database up to date. The site offers a few compelling reasons to explore but for the sake of keeping this message pertinent I simply want to #spreadcorkage

You can search by restaurant name, zip, or even neighborhood in New York and please contribute to our database if we have incorrect data or it has not been validated by the owner/wine director.

Nice site Ilya.

Working on a dinner in the City for next month and heard back by email from these restaurants on their current corkage fees:

Keens - $20
North Square - $15
Recette - $25

I was at Strip House last night… corkage was $50… sort of an “ouch” price but cracked a 2001 Pavie Decesse and it was well worth the fee.

Txikito – $15
Jewel Bako – $35.

Keen’s $20/bottle. Waiter was great. Lamb chops and mutton AWESOME.

That place is a classic. Had my BP there.

I thought the mutton sucked. Some others went there recently and said the same thing. Going next week but staying away from the mutton.

Was just looking at the wine list for Noreetuh (we’ve got reservations soon)–$15/bottle.

Updated through January 14, 2015. I hope to complete the update by Friday.

Help a brother out. If you post a link, I’ll add that to the first post. [wink.gif]

I’m curious as to where you get your corkage fee number from. I’ve been paying $25 at Avra for at least the last 2 years. The website says $15. I did send you an e mail about this on the website.

When I type in 10017 (midtown Manhattan east), all the restaurants with and without corkage fees pop up. Can you list all of them without me pressing Next for the next group of restaurants to appear. Also, the names start to repeat, and if you’re not paying attention, you can get stuck in the revolving door. [cheers.gif]

Updated through May 13, 2015.

When posting a restaurant, if possible, please post a link. Everyone will say thank you.

Tanoshi Sushi Sake Bar on UES. Don’t let the name fool you. They do not have a liquor license. Small place, omakase at counter only, 3 seatings nightly, decent sushi, excellent price for NYC, bring stems. http://tanoshisushinyc.com/

Thrillist posted a BYO list today. Many covered already but still worthwhile I thought. Best BYOB Restaurants in NYC: Places You Can Bring Your Own Alcohol To - Thrillist

Brian, that’s a strange list in that I can’t figure out why they selected these restaurants and left a lot of others off their list.

Paul, agreed. It does seem sort of random, although I’d guess many have been mentioned in other lists done by them. They seem to focus on low or free corkage with a few well known places thrown in.

I’ve updated the first post. Every little bit helps. [cheers.gif]

Mentions Wo Hop in Chinatown, which I do not recommend for anything except beer, but reminds me that Hop Kee downstairs at 21 Mott St has free corkage. Can’t remember if they have wine glasses or just water glasses. But the food is classic inexpensive Cantonese. Tables are far enough apart to make for a comfortable experience. Very efficient service.

Update-- L’Apicio corkage free night is Sunday and Monday (not Tuesday anymore).

Table d’Hote in Carnegie Hill - policy is sort of a moving target, ranges from $20-35 (most often $25) depending on, as best I can tell, lunar phases and whether a dowsing stick bends when you call. But its a lovely, tiny, restaurant with excellent food, and a perfect place to split a nice bottle on a date.
