Need assistance with wine list

We are celebrating my mother’s 92nd Birthday this evening. :champagne:

I’m looking for a champagne, a white and a red.
Considering the Hébrart for the champagne, but I’m open to suggestions. In terms of price, $100+/- per bottle.
Any interesting bottles on the menu?

The Tyler Chardonnay looks good

That’s quite a list (of course I’m from PA). I suspect that the occasion may not be one for experimentation but I’d ask the Somm about the Cremant de Jura from Tissot and the Chardonnay/Colombard from Martha Stoumen. The latter because I cut my teeth on CA Colombard but never see it anymore.

I’ve had that Tissot and it’s awesome

As it’s for her birthday, what style of wine would she enjoy… even if only for a small glass?

It’s a delight to see such a nice Beaujolais section.

White: Pattes Loup or Defait

What a nice list, and priced pretty reasonably. I might just put myself in the hands of the somm, assuming they have one who knows their list well.

The owner’s son.
We usually do inquire and ask for his recommendations. We had an interesting Cab Franc that he recommended the last time we were there.

The Texier Pergaud Brezeme Serine is interesting to me because I haven’t seen this in several vintages and there are a couple of things this could be, and even spelled wrong on the list. It’s a good list but not inexpensive in the midrange, even if some expensive things are. I agree with Zach on the Tissot, and Raventos at $65 is pretty decent.

One of everyone’s favorite things about this restaurant is their cheese cart.
They have a fromagier that brings the cart to the table and tells you about all of the cheeses. Tables have the option of 3, 5 or 7 different ones. It’s a fun way to start the meal (or end it).

The Racines Chardonnay goes so well with Vacherin and Humboldt’s Fog- like cheese.

I didn’t remember their pricing being that friendly (for Ohio). Lots of excellent stuff.

Another option that’s priced incredibly well is the Pehu Face Nord
I like the Dehours as well, higher dosage and some wood aging I believe though.

Onwards I might do the

Tement (don’t be scared it’s SB!) or
the D. Lafon bourgone is so well priced and I’ve never seen a bottle on the shelf here.

We have almost always done Beaujolais but I would be tempted by

Domaine Faury, “Les Ribaudes,” 2021
The Texier is a good call but it doesn’t say Serine so I’m assuming it’s the regular. Still good stuff but not interesting as Serine.

I don’t see dessert wines but we had a glass of Vilmart Ratafia that was nice and I’d think pair well with some of those cheeses.

It has its own heading ‘Serine’. But I agree it’s ambiguous, in more than one way. I’d be happy with the Faury as well.

Ah, thanks for clarifying.

I was struggling with the format.

I have several vintages in the cellar, and agree it great stuff for the price. Agree that I would choose that first after verifying.

I love Bdx, Burg, Rhone, Italy, etc. but on lists with mostly recent vintages I tend to look for reds that drink better young than many of those places, and this one caught my eye:

Bierzo

La VizcaÍna by Raul Perez, “El Rapolao,” 2020

Wait. Is that Epoisses on the cheese cart?

If a restaurant doesn’t have a cheese cart, is it really a restaurant?

Adding to my earlier comments- it seems that the strength of the list is uncommon wines. Accordingly, I’d work with the Somm if possible.

That said, I also noted the Texier Serine. I’d also consider the Hobo Wine Co Cab but only by reputation (not experience).
