Need assistance with wine list

Y’all have me going back looking for dessert wines given that cheese cart.

I wish that I could bring my own, I have a ton. No BYO in Ohio.

I would have a glass of ‘16 Climens with cheese, and it isn’t unreasonable. If it hasn’t been open forever.

You might ask them, I know I brought a bottle either there or Trentina once, can’t remember exactly.
Not that it’s needed at L’albatros though.

Bruell’s restaurants used to let you. I’m pretty sure that they don’t anymore. I could be wrong.
Just called. $5 per person for each bottle. Now I wish I had more time to grab some bottles.
Bringing some dessert wine, though.

Ha, awesome!

I just asked my wife which it was and she said “It was both of them dummy” :joy:

Memory not my strong suite…

I grabbed a d’Yquem. It is a celebration.

It’s a really good, exciting and fun wine list, with what seems to be very fair prices. It has more or less everything, from wilder natural wines to less extreme, yet lovely producers. Tons of things I’d be very excited to drink and order.

As long as you have an idea of style and perhaps country m you prefer then you can spin the bottle and see where it stops.

Any area or style of wines per color that you/the groups are likely to find more exciting?

That’s a good looking cheese cart. Here’s the one from Troisgros last week.

Abbie, congratulations to your mother on her 92nd birthday and props to you for being able to take her out for dinner and spend some quality time with her! :wine_glass:

Baumard Savennieres
Metras
Raffault

Also, like others said, ask somm

This also appears close to the CSO, and I have been wanting to go there.

I may go to this restaurant as well - thanks!

Happy Birthday to your Mother – what a wonderful event. Look forward to the recap . . . I will say that of all the Italian whites outside of Fruili that I have had, Vernaccia was a standout across multiple producers. I think it is the only white DOCG in Tuscany and produced in small quantities near San Gimignano. I would be trying this if I had the opportunity and its not a bad sub for Pinot Grigio:
Montenidoli, “Tradizionale,” San Gimignano.

This is the classic pre- or post-orchestra performance place. Highly recommended!

I find the somm always finds something wonderful to pull out of the hat, especially with a bit of guidance from the table. Also interested to hear of their permissive attitude (for Ohio) on corkage.

Well there is one on the menu, and probably a decent one, so that would be the obvious option. You could change countries and go for Pinot Gris. Same grape, but typically a much fuller style.

Loads of other good wines on the list, but I’d absolutely get that Pinot Grigio, given the reason for the meal.

We had a really wonderful dinner. We did start with the Hébrart Champagne. I forgot to take a photo. We did the cheese course before our salads/apps and had some champagne to accompany it.

The Somm did ask about a second bottle, and I said that we would like something that will go well with most everything. She asked if I had anything in mind, and I said we were open, but we do enjoy Cru Beaujolais. She asked if there was a region that I liked, and I mentioned Cote du Py and also said that I noticed that there was none on the menu. She thought that they did have one bottle left in the cellar, but she came back and said that they were out. She suggested a Morgon that she loved, and I said fine. She proceeded to open two bottles of this wine and they were both corked. The owner’s son then came by (also a Somm) and had a bottle that he wanted to suggest for the table, we did not hesitate, and it hit the spot. Apparently, they had just gotten this particular biodynamic Beaujolais in at the restaurant. He was very excited about it and it did not disappoint.

We finished with dessert and the bottle of d’Yquem that I brought. They ended up not charging us a corkage fee. I did tell the Somm and our server to pour some for themselves. I meant to bring an older vintage, but we were running late. I haven’t had d’Yquem in a really long time, and it was fun to see how much it evolved in the short time that it was open. I felt bad because the Somm and server tried it when it was first opened, and it was so much better 1/2 hr later. I told the server to try a little more before she recorked the rest of the bottle for us to take home.

I’m excited to return and try some of the other wines that you all suggested. If you live in the Cleveland area, this is without a doubt one of the top restaurants around. We love it.
