Love this thread. I don’t understand the single digit monthly consumption numbers!
I’m a drifter.
I was a cellar reduction member in 2021 since my cellar and off-sites were full. I moved to France and became a cellar augmentation member at unmet pace while I was there. Left the new wine abroad and came back to Canada. You’d expect I’d fall back to reduction having learned from my 2021 experience. Nope. Augmentation again. I found a new off-site.
I won’t subject you to my moods and will remain a lurker on both threads. You don’t need my aggravation.
August 56 bottles consumed, 7 bottles purchased. I’m not doing very well.
Good for you! Keep going!!. Are you replacing wines you already like or exploring new ones?
At 79 I’m aggressively drinking down the “gems” but with the goal to have enough left for auction to pay for my funeral
Can I switch back and forth each week between this thread and the Inventory Reduction thread? That pretty much sums up how I operate.
Aug:
Consumed - 33
Purchased - 29
Technically I belong in the equilibrium thread after five years of brisk expansion and no space, but I’m only 46, so my spiritual home is here, not the reduction thread.
Thought I was done until I rediscovered Northern Rhone. Need to get 100 bottles of those and then I think I’m done, sigh. Having offsite storage for overflow is dangerous. It was only supposed to be for high-value bottles and super long agers.
Wrong thread
Well, Sept is off to a better start! Purchased 9 bottles only consumed 7. But I just put requests in for several cases so it should be a good month!
Purchased: 35 (YTD 452)
Consumed: 41 (YTD 344)
So down 6 on the month, but up 108 on the year so far (ending bottles 2,227)
I’m currently at around 300 bottles (with 90 additional incoming); I drink about a bottle a week. I’m in maintenance mode on my Napa, Sonoma, and Paso allocations, purchasing the minimum each year. I have a Santa Barbara trip (Sta Rita Hills) at the end of the year. Crossing my fingers that I like the stuff/people and get some new allocations. Revisiting Paso early next year and may or may not pick up another allocation there.
Since I started to keep records:
2015 Purchased 149 - Consumed 79 = 70
2016 Purchased 153 - Consumed 121 = 32
2017 Purchased 211 - Consumed 154 = 57
2018 Purchased 153 - Consumed 146 = 7
2019 Purchased 220 - Consumed 158 = 62
2020 Purchased 144 - Consumed 156 = -12
2021 Purchased 186 - Consumed 183 = 3
2022 Purchased 231 - Consumed 189 = 42
2023 Purchased 169 - Consumed 187 = -18
2024 Purchased 302 - Consumed 226 = 76
2025 Purchased 119 - Consumed 119 = 0
