Monthly Check-In: Cellar Inventory EXPANSION Plan

Ok we (well, the young & spendy among us) talk about owning too little wine, keep buying more (even if we don’t have room or need to size up), increasing our holdings of specific producers, etc. So I challenge those of us to post on the first of each month whether we decreased or managed to increase our holdings (or held stable). If you use CT, check your holdings (including undelivered purchases) and record it somewhere and on the first of each month tell us how you did.

Though a little late, I will start. As of today I have 1121 bottles, goal is to get to around 2000 bottles and hold steady.

For August 2025:

In: +33 bottles (all pending shipment)
Out: -22 bottles (a few gifted for a charity auction)
Net: +11

You should cross post this on the cellar inventory reduction plan thread. It looks like most of the posts there anyway. :joy:

So my initial reaction when this thread was suggested, is that it already exists. The only difference is, do you feel good or bad about the result

I felt out of place posting in there

That was better than I expected. I do have a problem coming up here pretty quick. I have 110 pending bottles and my locker is pretty full… :grimacing::grimacing:

Please don’t sweat it. So do the rest of us there :joy:

That’s the spirit!

For the month of August 2025:

In: +39
Out: -5
Net: +34

I bought a bunch of burg in August so not touching that for a while. I suspect this month to be a bit different since we have a friends’ wedding and my birthday to celebrate.

Therein lies the problem, there’s no steady :rofl:

I like this thread. I am trying to reduce the size of my cellar, but I am 70. I had a great time over many years building up my collection and am now enjoying the wines I purchased over the years. You guys should do the same thing and have a great time doing so. Don’t let a bunch of old farts stop you.

But, be careful. If you are going to buy wines for aging, buy wines with a track record for aging. If you want to buy the newest thing out there, plan to drink it young.

I’m between this thread and the cellar reduction one as I’m trying to keep my cellar basically ~flat at the moment. Trying to add more thoughtful allocation purchases while drinking down the random buys that I’ve made in the past. Doing better on the second part than the first part, lol

For August 2025:
In: +9
Out: -10
Net: -1

End of month: 148 bottles

We need a Cellar Equilibrium Thread! That’s the one I’d be in today if I hadn’t over-induldged on deals and sentenced myself to the Reduction thread.

If you are a participant here, equilibrium is about the best one can reasonably expect

I will be 79 years old in two weeks.

Yesterday I added 57 bottles to my cellar, current total 708.
Tomorrow I will add 66 bottles to my cellar.

Please note that I am now in one floor living, so my ‘cellar’ is a ground level temp-controlled room, attached to my home but entered through my outside porch.

Felt like the good deals were too good to pass up on a lot of online shopping sites this past month, and this is after only buying 6 Elivette’s and massively regretting not getting more.

Starting Inventory: 101
Added: +74
Drank: -7
Ending: 168

Already up another 4 net bottles so far this month.

I like those numbers!
