Ok boys and gals, What would the course by course wine pairing be for the Champions Dinner Hosted by Hideki Matsuyama be???
Not an answer to your question- but they usually have a white and a red-but I havenât seen those mentioned yet.
No clueâŠwithout much thoughtâŠmine are listed by course:
- 2006 Salon Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut
- 2012 Beaux FrĂšres Pinot Noir The Upper Terrace
- 2014 Joseph Phelps Insignia
- 2007 Domaine des Baumard Coteaux du Layon Clos de Sainte Catherine
Superb menu.
I agree, my daughter said it was âtoo safeâ but I told her youâd faint if you knew the average age of those attending, you want everyone there to be able to enjoy it.
Might be nice if he went with a Kenzo estate cab?
*word around the campfire is the year VJ did Thai fusion resulted in the most people ordering off the menu.
Best Champions dinner menu Iâve seen in a while. Not about the food, but typically horrible.
Iâd be happy with a couple of bottles of a nice daiginjo that should go well with everything, like Kokuryu Daiginjo âCrystal Dragonâ or Tedorigawa Kinka Daiginjo Nama. And beer. Gotta have beer.
With dessert: Nikka Coffey Malt, but more likely, tea.
Thatâs oddly so close to a dinner last weekend at a local Japanese restaurant but without the dessert and skewers. The A5 and mushrooms were nigiri syle. Sake the whole way through. A good sake compliments Nobu style miso cod so well.
Remember its Augusta, Georgia food and wine pairing:
Beringer Private Reserve Chardonnay
Caymus Cabernet

In the recent past the wines have been WAY better than that. It might not be well known but ANGC has a crazy deep cellar especially Bdx
- Roederer Cristal
- Grace Koshu (excellent subtle Japanese white wine for those who havenât had it)
- Pomerol
- Sauternes
So wrong. What champ served the 97 Insignia a few years back?
DAMN thatâs a delish sounding menuâŠ
Bet they drank the 82 Lafite he served that night!
They usually list the wine on the menu, if Iâm not mistaken. As to the food, Iâve head that a lot of the guys order off the menu because even the relatively boring food that most champions serve is still too crazy for the filet and baked potato crowd.
- While Iâd love to say some expensive Junmai Daiginjo, I think a Taru Sake in the casks would be a fun opening to the dinner.
- 2002 Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Cuvée Rare
- 2005 Domaine Marquis dâAngerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs
- 2016 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé or Kir Royale with rose Champagne.
Mags of 2007 CdP or GTFO.

As McIlroy mentioned, the wine cellar below the clubhouse â with reportedly over 30 pages of options â is one of the best collections around. Rickie Fowler, who has visited it, agrees with McIlroy: âThe wine cellar is pretty spectacular,â he said.
Here are a couple good ones-
