I clearly must have. I thought this was the dinner for the golfers before the tourney started. Like when Fuzzy Zeller said the menu should consist of fried chicken and collard greens when Tiger Woods was the defending champ. I have no doubt the oil tycoons, finance chairman, real estate CEO’s, etc. members at ANGC have stocked the restaurant with an unimaginably deep list.
The Masters site posted an image of the full menu that included the wine pairings:
Hakkaisan “Yukimuro” Junmai Daingingo, Sake
2016 Williams Selyem Drake Estate Vineyard, Russian River Valley, Chardonnay
2012 Peter Michael “Les Pavots”, Knights Valley, Proprietary Red Wine
Just illustrating the attendees at the golfers dinner, Fuzzy Zeller as an example, are lets say not the most cultured in the world hence the Beringer and Caymus recommendation. From his mouth for the whole world to hear how much of a schmuck he is. I’m sure the 300 ANGC members who make $100,000 a second would not insulted by my attempt at humor. If they are, they can drown their sorrows in 1982 Lafite and laugh at us proletariats.
As a reference point, in 2019 Patrick Reed selected a 2013 Caymus Cabernet, and in 2012 Danny Willett had the 2012 Caymus Special Selection.
Both menus were with big beef - bone-in ribeye and prime rib.
This was Chef Nan. You can still get basically this exact same menu at Nan Thai any day of the week. But I prefer either the short rib or the lobster/scallop/clam seafood special.
Well, same menu minus the '82 Lafite unless you bring your own. $25 corkage.
I love this year’s menu. One of the best in ages. I would hope they would serve an excellent champagne, a light beautifully aged burgundy, an aged barolo, and then japanese whisky with dessert.
Here is an article from 2020 that references the Augusta Wine Cellar, and some comments from Rory. They seem to have some Dunn in the cellar. And, I agree. The food selections from this evening’s menu looks fantastic!
From what I hear they get the Lion’s Share of the DRC allocation each year from the GA distributor. The prices are more than reasonable for that reason. Aged DRC is priced at close to current retail prices.
It would make sense considering who the membership consists of. The way the membership dues work and everything is also unique. The club makes most of their money from the tourney so they make less from common means like membership dues and alcohol pricing.
I’m guessing VJ figured his bill for the Lafite was going to be enough that he didn’t need to pile on with DP or Cristal. Not that he couldn’t afford it.
