Looking for producers of "100% merlot" merlot

Sorry I meant casa lapostelle.

Look for the 2005, killer wine value. 2009 too.

Also add La Tour Carnet “Sevitude Volontaire”. Always 100% Merlot.

Thanks Kris. Hate these buyouts. After La Tour Carnet was bought out “Servitude Volontaire” is now it’s own division with just this one bottle of 100% Merlot-Merlot. No wonder I had a little difficulty finding shops offering it or even looking on Bernard’s main website which is “French-only”…did find this English version…http://www.bernard-magrez.com/content/en/la-servitude-volontaire

Only one retailer in the US based out of NYC…at least they will ship to LA (California)…will be there in a few months.

There are still 3 wines under the La Tour Carnet label. I think 2 Bordeaux blends and 1 white wine.

Radikon and others in Friuli.

Coturri.

Falesco has a Merlot. Apparently the 2009 got 92 pts from Galloni and Envoyer offered it over the weekend for $13.

I’m not a big fan of Bordeaux varietals, so don’t really buy a lot of the Italian versions either. Ornellaia’s Masseto is supposed to be fantastic.

Frescobaldi Lamaione is the most tannic merlot I’ve had. I really enjoy Sinnean and Cooper merlot all from the Columbia valley. Northstar from the same area is all right but not quite up to the same level.

Jim Irvine’s Grand Merlot is a very good wine with bottle age on it.

Irvine’s 97’s are starting to come into their own now.

Just picked up the latest Decanter on BDX, and there is a Mock label with Petrus on it that says %100 Merlot and the article goes into Americas view on single grape labeled wines. Interesting article.

SAN GIUSTO A RENTENNANO in Tuscany does a 100% Merlot - ‘La Ricolma’.

I was really impressed with an Irvine Grand Merlot from the 90’s (Australia) but when I tried to purchase a more recent vintage I found that they no longer have an importer in the USA. A shame. Same thing with Wynn Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon which I have liked in the past.

I thought Pahlmeyer Merlot might be 100% but winery notes say 91% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Luckily my local wine shop (huge chain), http://www.LCBO.com, does carry Frescobaldi. Just need to convince them to stock “Lamaione”. Which is another 100% merlot–merlot.

Haven’t tried any Aussie wines yet. Been meaning to. So I definitely haven’t tried any of their merlots. Not that they’re known for it.

Will look up San Giusto A Rentennano Mark. Thanks for providing the URL too…will have to go to NYC to pickup a bottle.

Please scratch my curiosity spot, Leroy. Why the search for varietal purity?

Many but not all of the Seavey Merlots are 100% Merlot. It’s a vintage-by-vintage decision. I don’t have the stats for all the wines, but I know the 2007 is 100% Merlot. www.seaveyvineyard.com

Ummm…since I don’t know where your “curiosity spot” has been I’m not going to “scratch”…heh…it’s for my own curiosity. Never having sampled a “pure” (not a blend of merlot/cab.sauv.) merlot (or Chard). To see if there’s a noticeable difference compared to a merlot with lets say a 85% merlot 15% Cab. Sauv. Or a near 50/50 blend… Will I like it more? Less? What differences on the nose and on my palate will I notice? Etc.

I’m assuming most of you HAVE sampled 100% merlot–merlots? What have you noticed comparing them to merlots that are blends?

And thanks for the new recommendations w/ URLs.

They’re all sold out. And I believe they are blends.

Gotcha.

This surprises me. I have been operating under the impression that all or almost all varietally-labeled Chardonnays are 100% Chardonnay. Am I mistaken?

My general impression too, though I think I’ve read some of the big mass market Chards throw in a small amount of Gewurztraminer or Viognier?

As to Merlot, there’s a small producer in Sonoma called Albini that makes a very nice 100% Merlot, though I haven’t seen in last couple vintages.

I’m pretty sure I noticed a few producers with Chards that aren’t 100% Chard. Haven’t taken a count of course so I have no idea what the ratio might be. 100%:x#blend. Which was sort of why I was under the impression that many Chards are also blends. Not sure if it’s as prevalent as among merlots.

Will look into Albini…Have you tried the 100% Dale? Or any 100% merlots? Is there a noticeable difference on the palate or nose? More intense? Hard to generalize perhaps.

Beau Soleil and Certan-Marzelle are a couple of more Pomerol producers that are 100% Merlot.

Also Faizeau (Montagne-St Emilion).
