This letter is to announce the release of the 2009 Hundred Acre Precious and the 2008 Hundred Acre PORT a.k.a. FORTIFICATION.
Now for those of you that don’t know, this is not my usual letter but clients have complained that by the time they read the letter and go to order the wine they are all sold out as there is so little of these wines.
The PORT is expensive at $500 per bottle but the simple reason is that it is one of the greatest in the world and takes an enormous amount of time to make, craft the wine, make and age our own brandy and frankly it is the same reason divorce is expensive, it’s worth it.
Now, for the guys reading this letter or women of means and self empowered people in general, not having a port like this in your arsenal is like having guns and not knowing how to use them…people are going to piss you off and there are going to be days where you just need some love or an enemy has died (hopefully slowly or in some hilarious manner like being squashed by a steam roller) and it’s time to celebrate. That’s when an EPIC bottle of PORT is mandated by pure sensibility. So, if you cannot understand what I just said I suggest you go listen to ABBA’s greatest hits for about a day.
Now as for PRECIOUS it is probably sold out already so sorry.
Have fun, I am not sending scores and quotes as they are both legend and have ridiculous scores and write ups and it is now 8 in the morning and I am drinking a bottle of wine and smoking a great Cuban cigar, so fuck it. Enjoy.
AMEN! And how do they call this “PORT”. I guess the producers in Portugal should call their wines or Ports “Hundred Acre” and then lets see who gets pissed off and demands they remove it.
And at $500? Are you kidding me, even Noval’s Nacional is generally cheaper than that on release and it’s got over 80 years of track records behind it. Anyone foolish enough to spend that kinda money on a Cali fortified wine made out of Cabernet is a fool.
I wasn’t going to bring a Port, but now I will just so you can see what the real deal is like and then wallow in misery when you find out how much better the real thing is
I got to taste an previous release of the “Port” at a dinner a few months ago and thought that it was a very well made and enjoyable fortified wine. It wasn’t Port, but not bad. Certainly not worth $500 IMO, but wtf do I know? More power to Mr. Woodbridge to know his clientele and gauge their level of interest in what he’s doing (and how much they’re willing to spend to be members of such an exclusive club).
I mean, at the end of the day, it’s not all that different from what the first growth Bordeaux producers have been doing to cabernet lovers for at least the past twenty years.
Andy you beat me to it. When I saw this my first thought was you can get Nacional and have money left over. I guess if you can sell it for 500 bucks more power to you.
If this bloke can sell California Port for $500 he’s more of a business genius than Bill Gates and Warren Buffet put together. My sincere congratulations if he can pull it off.
