One of the shops I frequent in DC has both the 05 and 06, I might have to check those out. Have you had the 05?
Try the Roxo “Tradicional” fortified wine from Paso Robles. Made from the same grape varities as its Douro cousin. I took a bottle to the Douro during the 2010 harvest and served it double blind to a producer and some other friends who are super Port-serious people. No one could tell it wasn’t from the Douro. One of the best Cali-made fortified wines I’ve had. And it only costs about $50-60 a bottle.
I suggest using the other $440 you’ll save on buying more bottles of the same Roxo.
I have no problem with the offer. If he can sell the Port for $500 a bottle, more power to him. However, in the past 2 years I have had a 1994 Dow and 2000 Fonseca VP, and both were superb. I would prefer to take my chances buying six bottles of those for the same price or less than the Port from Hundred Acre.
Thanks,
Ed
