I figured this would be a great place to ask the question: which gas grill should I buy? Am embarking on a remodel of my patio and part of this will be a new grill set-up (not sure yet if it’ll be just the head on a built-in island or on a cart). For context, the BBQ/grill is like an oven/range for me - I cook on it at least 4 time per week and we love to cook. Am looking for something either 36" or 42" but stuck on which brand is the best. Most retailers say Lynx, but I have seen mixed reviews on-line (although they are dated). Some retailers say Twin Eagles (one of the founders of Lynx started this line). The other brands that seem to be comparable are Dacor, DCS, Viking, Wolf and seemingly Weber Summit, Sedona (Lynx less premium line) & Delta Heat (Twin Eagles’ less premium line). And am sure there are others at this level of quality that I haven’t mentioned.
Anyone have any recommendations or, equally important, vetoes?
Recently got a Saber grill and I have never used a better one. Gets very hot (up to 800 degres) and no flare up due to the desing. Finally I own a grill that is a pleasure to use and no worried about finding ashes if I walk inside for a bit.
I had never heard of Saber before but when we had a high end appliance repair guy out and he mentioned them to me when I whined about our crap grill. I was skeptical but sold after seeing them in action. Now after 6 mos I can’t think of using anything else.
Also have a a weber elsewhere which is good but nothing like this.
If you have the scratch, I really enjoyed using a Kalamazoo Gourmet grill at a friend’s house a couple of years ago. Easy to control the heat across the grill, pull it drawers for adding wood for smoking and a boss look
I have a Kalamazoo and I really like it. If there’s a better built grill I’d like to see it. The searing burner is outstanding-really everything about it is outstanding. It cooks low very well and gets really freakin’ hot if you need it. BUT, I don’t know that I would go to the expense again. I generally cook on my (new) BGE now but the gas grill is very convenient. Especially for quick searing a steak as my wife likes her steak black & blue. There are a lot of grills out there for less money that are almost as good or maybe even as good as a Kalamazoo.
I have an AOG Grill. Fire Magic’s “second label.” Absolutely no complaints. Gets extremely hot and costs far less than most of the prestige brands. I have the 36 with rotisserie and infrared burner.
I just bought a Lynx. I preferred over Fire Magic as Fire Magic has only one type of burner and I like the option Lynx gives you of having standard brass burners in addition to the infrared burner. I also like that the Lynx infrared burner is variable (not just on vs. off).
That being said, it mostly does not matter. I used a much less expensive grill for years that cooked great food even when it was 10 years old and close to falling apart.
Bumping as I’m nearly ready with the patio remodel and needing to figure out the grill.
Am thinking ~36 inch and looking at Fire Magic, Lynx, DCS & Alfresco (unfortunately Kalamazoo is WAY out of the price range). Any thoughts/pros/cons and recommendations/vetoes would be very much appreciated.
I currently have a Lynx and am very happy with it. The infrared burner is fantastic for searing and the range of temp control is very good. Recommended.
I still own my old Weber as well - great grills for the $$$.
I just got this new grill to replace my Weber gas grill. It came highly recommended by my local dealer who I trust. I love the side sear station for grilling small quantities. It should be fun to play with the rotisserie.
I also have a Napoleon Grill, though mine is the mirage series( BBQ Grill | Buy Outdoor Barbeque Grills | Napoleon® USA ). I’ve had it since February 2011 and haven’t had any problems with it whatsoever, and have absolutely loved it. I like the sear-zone located in the main cooking area and is a great alternative to my BGE when I don’t feel like getting the charcoal going or just need to do a quick cook on a weeknight. I’d highly recommend the brand based on my experience with this grill.
