From memory in May. Both were great with the Las Posadas bigger & showing more promise, but will also need more time. The Englehard was a typical open 19 & already delicious. I bought only the former (so far…) Joel
Release is live:
Impensata 2019 Engelhard Vineyard Proprietary Red
The Engelhard Estate Vineyard continues to produce some of the most undeniably exquisite fruit in Napa Valley. “An absolute beauty, the 2019 Engelhard Vineyard Proprietary Red boasts all the energy, expression, and power this site has become known for; and captures the essence of one of Napa Valley’s most under the radar vineyards.” Nigel Kinsman. With just 222 cases lovingly produced, this wine manifests our unwavering commitment to harnessing the spirit of this extraordinary vineyard.
“The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Engelhard Vineyard is every bit the stunner it was last year. Inky, deep, and super-expressive, the 2019 captures all of the energy of this site on Franz Valley School Road. All the elements are so well balanced, but what impresses most is the interplay of dark ripe fruit with strong mineral and savory accents. Healthy dollops of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec complement the Cabernet Sauvignon beautifully.” ~97 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
2019 Las Posadas Vineyard Proprietary Red Howell Mountain
We are elated to produce our first Howell Mountain red wine from Abreu’s Las Posadas Vineyard, a site that delivers personality, opulence, complexity, and longevity. Our 2019 Howell Mountain Proprietary Red, crafted by Nigel Kinsman and blended by Michel Rolland, is hedonistically captivating and wildly luxurious.
“The 2019 Red Wine Howell Mountain is spectacular. Inky, rich, and explosive to the core, the 2019 is mind-blowing in its purity. it’s the sort of wine I wish every Vinous reader could have an opportunity to taste and experience. Inky dark fruit, gravel, crushed rocks, menthol, licorice, and chocolate build in a riveting, dramatic Napa Valley red that hits all the right notes. Its beauty and pedigree are truly magnificent to behold. That is made all the more remarkable considering this is a very young project. The 2019 is A blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec, all from David Abreu’s Las Posadas ranch.” ~98 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
The Howell Mountain sounds so great to me with that large % of Cab Franc. Unfortunately, this does not fit in my budget.
Grabbed a 3-pack of each
Anyone going to give these whites a go? On the fence. Credit card is tired and worn out and I just grabbed 6 of the kinsman whites.
Has anyone tasted the Sauvignon Blanc? I would be interested in taking a chance on it if it was less expensive. A minimum if $450+ for 3 bottles after tax and shipping is too much for me.
$125/bottle was an easy pass…maybe the secondary market in a few years
I am in the easy pass camp
Rudd released a Semillon at $295 this morning… I had to look twice at the price
After the Kinsman Eades offer the Impensata was a easy pass
ditto
In for a 3 pack. Curious how it compares to the Kinsman Aisana. Worth the price?
Time will tell. This is the most I’ve ever paid for a Sauvignon Blanc.
They just posted scores from Dunnuck. They got a 100 on the las posadas 2019, 98 on the englehardt. Having tasted, can say those scores check out. Pretty one-of-a-kind stuff here.
I tasted all the 2023 released wines the week before last and they are all outstanding. A+ hospitality and wines.
I tasted all the 19s back in august. The 19 las posadas was my favorite. Great wine.
I thought everyone got 100 from JD. ![]()
Are you saying these are selling for less than they go for on release? If so, I’d love to grab some.
The Sauv Blanc is special in both flavor profile and mouthfeel. Just gorgeous- tasted twice, once on property and another at a fabulous wine dinner. I bought without hesitation- and while I haven’t opened my KE SB, based on what I have heard from many, these are very different wines.
Mountain fruit vs floor. Made the same, but very different. KE is brighter and doesn’t have the same mouth feel you mention. Nonetheless, I prefer the KE at this age (and price). The Impensata is reminiscent of another Howell Mountain SB to me. If you like Arkenstone’s, you will like Impensata’s.
