How often and how much

I started to listen and then I realized two things. First, the damned podcast was two hours long. I don’t have two hours to commit to a podcast. Second, it became evident pretty early on that Dr Huberman is one of those “supplement” guys. He lost me with that. He may be the smartest guy in the world, but I don’t know if he’s trying to inform me or sell me something, and I don’t want to take the time to sort that out.

We both have low tolerances… we get decimated trying to split a bottle of champagne.

I quit drinking on work nights after I got a little carried away during Covid working from home. On the weekends and days off, I love to cook so always open a red and white with my significant other. She won’t have as much as me, but on long cook days, I’ll open 2 reds.

With family it can get a bit out of hand at the holidays, we have large gatherings and ranchers can imbibe more than the average holiday reveler.

Drinking a gallon of water a day and exercise helps keep the weight down. Definitely notice that even a few beers disrupts sleep to some extent so hence abstaining during the week.

You people are funny and should never attend one of my tastings…

Weekdays 2-3 glasses, but abstain 1-2 days. Weekends can get a little nuts. The wife, 1-2 adult kids and I will easily kill 3-4 bottles. Tastings with the guys watching football is typically 2 btls per person.

I feel like this is true, but I haven’t seen anything, really, to confirm that gut suspicion. Like anything. :man_shrugging: But, +1. I have noticed a lot of anti-alcohol rhetoric (not that there’s anything wrong with that) but a dearth of similar suggestions re: consumption of equally “harmful” or worse shit.

My better half just had 9-month period of abstinence so I guess this year’s averages are wonky but normally it’s roughly two bottles a week between us. I find two glasses/24cl to be an appropriate amount for me during the week, any more than that can affect my sleep negatively. At wine dinners/tastings it’s a bit different story, typically between one and two bottles per person :snort:

Definitely have been buying more than I have consumed this year.

You suspect that when people talk about diet, exercise, physical condition and alcohol consumption on an Internet forum, they might tend to embellish in a way that looks more favorable?

Next thing you’re going to tell me, people’s lives aren’t as glamorous and fulfilling as they appear on their social media feeds.

The more information comes available, the more it seems exercise overcomes a lot of life’s choices. That said, alcohol and sugar are both well known to affect your health negatively. I think it’s easier to convince people to adjust what they eat or drink than to exercise more because it requires less effort. Being an adult is just making the conscious decision as to what the trade off should be.

That’s my theory, anyways.

5 + hard workouts are a must for a true hedonist.

I feel much better about my habits after reading through this (no judgement!). According to CT I’ve averaged 3.2 bottles/week the last two years which excludes wine from restaurants and as a guest at other people’s house. This is shared with my wife so about 2 bottles for me across 3 or 4 nights.

20-40cl per day. 5 to 7 days per week.

A lot of the wine I buy is for other people to drink and I wouldn’t change that. #sharethelove

I did the math per CT. 14 years of CT, right at 5000 bottles purchased, just as many consumed if you take into account home brew and bottles that never get recorded, restaurants, off the truck drinks, etc… Average is right at a bottle per day. That include me, my wife, and any sharing. Sounds about right. We have begun skipping more days, particularly weekdays, but can and do make up for it in group tastings, family get-togethers, etc…

Quite often. Enough. :sunglasses:

Due to my decades of high cholesterol, my doctors have run pretty comprehensive blood tests on my each and every year for the past 20+ years. Liver-function and other test results also get some attention, as they all have been kept well-informed about my love of red wine and good ale. I am 65 at this point, have been drinking all my adult life, and my numbers (blood test results) relating to alcohol intake have remained fairly steady. :slightly_smiling_face:

Carry on. :joy:
