How many bottles in your cellar? (new poll)

I used to store off site. No more.

This is a good summary of my cellar as well. Mine is more organized than it used to be, but I have only a vague idea of actual inventory. In terms of how many bottles? Far too many to ever be able to drink…

Except all the excellent “luck”, you need an external storage to avoid the head shaking :joy:

Mine only knows a fraction and I still get the head shakes.

But if that’s all you get I reckon you’re lucky to have found such an understanding wife as well.

I also dream about building my own cellar. But i don’t have space for it where i currently live. So will have to wait until we move or my kids moves out one day (they are 2 and 6… so thats far away hehe)

Around 650 here. 100 bottle fridge at home and 2 double wides as offsite storage, all way over capacity. I too have a buying problem.

Berserkers Day 14 pushed me towards the @J-Izzo standard of looking nuts to my casual wine-drinking friends. Still one more BD14 delivery pending, from Stellareese. What’s weird is that the more the hubs and I get, the more I have this need to round it out, or to make sure I have at least X bottles of Wine Y to keep some in reserve for years down the road. I love reading everyone’s tasting notes and imagining that in 10 years, I’ll have some really nicely aged wines.

Thanks all for making me feel so un-excessive!

Oh about 70% is off site. I get the head shakes for the 30% tip of the iceberg. When I start getting the pursed lips and the wtf frown, I’ll pull something extra nice out of the cellar and then say “you’re welcome”. Shazam, problem solved.

Looks like I will part with about 10-15% of my cellar once I send another batch of cases to WB. It will be welcome, not because of actual storage but more organization.

+1
Its sooooo nice to have verticals of 6 packs of Breuer Schlossberg and Saumagen Auslese Trocken lying in the cellar waiting…

?? :scratch:If you are below 50 you need a huge cellar.
If your over 70 you need only to have approx 200 bottles for each year left

You drink/open 200 of your own bottles per year? I think i avg one per week + a few extra for tastings during the year, but i rarely bring more than two or three bottles to a tasting as others will also bring wines.

Maybe i just need to drink much more!

My wife has no book knowledge of wine, but has a very good palate and can tell the good from bad. We have a running joke about the time we were on the road and stopped in a Ruby Tuesdays (the fanciest place within 25 miles). The nicest red on offer was … Meiomi. She recognized Meiomi from many many years prior (pre-Constellation). I said, uh, it’ll be different now. She takes one sip, makes a face and whispers “what is this sugary crap?”

I know! I had a 2008 Meiomi that was sublime. Either my palate changed, or each successive vintage seemed to get a bit more sugary. (Probably both.)

I remember old Meiomi. It’s not you. Constellation gave America the grape juice it apparently wants.

At age 56 I have a huge cellar, and it’s still getting bigger. When I retire I will have to start putting Riesling on my morning cereal.

This is inspirational. Pancakes soaked in Riesling for breakfast. My retirement is going to be awesome. Short, but awesome.
