Just got back from Cambria…and one of the things we did was tour Hearst Castle…this time around we did the Kitchen and Cottages tour…which includes the wine cellar. Here some pics of the bottles…most are empty unfortunately!
Very cool! Thanks for sharing.
Very cool pics. I wonder if all those fiaschi of Chiant are still good (I’m betting they never were).
Yeah. I was wondering same thing.
Cool pics. Steal anything? I guess not with the glass.
Thanks for the pics - very cool.
I wonder if Rudy K. made any field trips here. Is there a visitor log?
Great pics, amazing history. Love the CA wines “Bordeaux” in burgundy bottles and “burgundy” in Bordeaux bottles!
Cools shots. Love seeing the Paul Masson bottles. Any idea who the producer is for those 1878 burg bottles?
Cresta blanca! First american wine to win a wine competition in France.
Guess they drank pretty well…
Oh great…now I know where Nicos buys some of his wines!
Sorry to you German fans…they drank a LOT of Riesling…and there were tons of German bottles that I didn’t take pics of…the tour guide didn’t let us spend much time down there so I was trying to take as many pics as possible. Was amazed at the Burgs!
If there are any bottles full…they are probably toast by now…since there was a thermometer in there…and it was pushing 80!
They definitely drank well…but Hearst frowned on excess drinking…guests usually only had one or two drinks…and that’s all! The heavy drinkers were bused out of town!
rudy kurniawan’s disneyland.
Interesting to see these 34 Drc Richebourg now on Winebid… https://www.winebid.com/BuyWine/Items/1934-drc/8283558 …look at the “Richebourg” lettering…then look at the “Romanee Conti”…with the handscript??? Hmmmmm??
fun pix. Thanks for posting.
Very nice pictures. Thanks for taking them. Hearst Castle is always a fun visit.
Thanks,
Ed
We did that tour on our Honeymoon- but at the time it was a part of the Garden tour, likely because the entrance is on the outside. Our guide starts the tour with a brief description of where we were going to go, closing the speech with (to my horror), ‘And if we have time, we’ll do a quick tour of the wine cellar at the end.’
As we made our way to the first point of interest, I quietly moved up to the head of the group and politely let the guide know that the only reason we were on this tour was because of the wine cellar. After a brief, puzzled look on his face, he assured me that we would stop at the wine cellar…
Thanks for sharing. Awesome snapshot in wine history.
Thought the same thing of the 1934 DRC Richebourg bottles after seeing your pictures…
Amazing post, thanks for sharing!
Very neat pics. Love the variety of wines. Why so many 1934s?
Hearst must have bought fakes.
