Health supplements/routines to counter the adverse effects of drinking wine/alcohol

Definitely worth taking every day in that case, especially since the cost isn’t prohibitive (unlike zBiotics).

It’s basically the opposite of auto brewery syndrome. If you colonize with this, it breaks downs the alcohol.

If I read the results correctly though, they ingested very little alcohol and a few of the subjects who weren’t on the supplement didn’t get a positive alcohol level detected anyway?

Yeah it wasn’t a ton of alcohol probably, about 2 drinks for a male and 1 drink for a female. The issue is that in order to pass the IRB they probably have some limitations in terms of how much alcohol they could give the subjects:

They took it for 1 week prior to alcohol ingestion.

Results were statistically impressive and clinically promising, but the observed 70% reduction in BAC may not be relevant to the levels of consumption being discussed here:

The alcohol dose used was low (47-89 ml or ~1.5-3 oz of 40% vodka), it “did not lead to measurable relevant alcohol concentrations in the blood in 10 cases (42%)” leaving an n of 14, and none of the test group demonstrated cognitive changes, suggesting significantly lower dosing than being discussed here.

The researchers may have difficulty getting IRB approval for testing higher doses.

Also of note, breath alcohol concentration was reduced only 30%. While that may be irrelevant compared to BAC with respect to cognitive function or health risks, it would be highly relevant if one were administered a breath test during a traffic stop.

Sorry yeah 2 capsules a day for 1 week.

I don’t think I’d notice the difference between nine and ten drinks either!

I think there’s an enormous difference at the higher BAC levels but less so at the 1-2 drink level.

Just wanted to give some anecdotal feedback here:

Went to a wine dinner on Saturday and tried my new “regime”:

Pregame: 2 Wine Fix + Dr. Berg electolytes (low sodium) + ZBiotics
Postgame: 3 Wine Fix + Dr. Berg electrolytes

Seemed to work very well. Overnight heart rate was elevated over normal but much lower than it would have been without the regime. It was lower than it was the night before with a reasonable restaurant meal and half a bottle of wine.

Next day I could tell I had something to drink the night before but much less than a pre-Zbiotics wine dinner evening. Not sure how much of this was ZBiotics vs. WineFix vs. electolytes, but the combination certainly seemed to work well for me (and my wife) compared with the historical control of no intervention.

Thanks to everyone on this thread sharing their tactics and experiences!

Problem is that much of the downturn of wine and alcohol in general is occurring in the under 30 group.

No Zbiotics sale today :frowning:

Yeah it doesn’t go on sale too often; there was a winter sale.

Best way is just to get some referrals and use each one for a 6 pack for maximum discount since it’s dollars off and not percentage.

I’m quite late to this thread, but let’s say I want to decrease the risk of cancer/heart issues from drinking wine. Would something like ZBiotics be the best option? I suppose something to break down acetaldehyde into something less harmful. Are there any peer reviewed studies on this stuff, or is it mostly anecdotal?

DHM and Zbiotics both break down acetylaldehyde, using different pathways, so the combination is somewhat synergistic. Myrkl just metabolizes alcohol itself, which is also helpful. There are some peer reviewed studies about the mechanism but not long term data, especially involving cancer outcomes. That being said, there is a plethora of data about acetylaldehyde being carcinogenic and data regarding both of the supplements reducing acetylaldehyde, so you’ll have to do some second order extrapolation.

What is the mechanism by which DHM breaks down acetaldehyde?
