Health supplements/routines to counter the adverse effects of drinking wine/alcohol

Sugar kills my sleep. Even without alcohol, I wake up in the middle of the night with my hear pounding if I have dessert too close to bedtime. This is likely because I’ve been at nearly zero sugar, except on vacation or dinner parties, for more than 20 years. I don’t drink caffeine at night.

Interesting, you never used sugar at all near workouts? I would use some super fast digesting carbs like rice krispy treats or an intraworkout when I would go for big lift days when not on keto.

Never. Used a banana or apple in those situations. Every once in a while a few crackers if that’s what I had on hand.

Not really going to argue here and I agree that espresso will definitely mess up recovery, probably more than eating late (unless it’s something like 100% casein powder) but for sure eating late will increase your resting HR for a while and slow down your recovery index (assuming that’s the time for your HR to come down) and in turn messes up your HRV.

All that said, since we know that will be messed up, what I really want to know is did he have a hangover after all that?

Does anyone here follow and take Dr Eric Berg’s advice? I just checked and find it hilarious that his Wikipedia page no longer exists.

I’m lucky in that I almost never get hangovers, and I feel a little tired but otherwise pretty good this morning. I’m not about to jump on skis or the mountain bike. A gentle hike and maybe some yoga sound more appropriate.

As I mentioned, there were several factors beyond the drinking that affected my Oura readiness score. Late meal, sugar, caffeine. I was also flagged for a lack of recovery days. Yesterday was mountain biking, with hiking and yoga the four days before.

Tried Cheers after-alcohol pills a handful of times now, after various levels of alcohol consumption, and it gives me severe insomnia. Definitely not for me.

Trying Myrkl next.

Myrkl is pretty effective. I’d personally recommend the wine fix over cheers as it focuses on the key ingredient.

It was unlucky timing for me. My Mrykl arrives today.

I’ll chime in on this - Cheers has had minimal perceptible benefit. Maybe less headache in the morning, but Ibuprofen does the trick just fine there.

Frankly, I’ve had a lot more success with Z-biotics and hydration +electrolytes. I’m interested to give Myrkl and/or the Wine Fix a try.

Well anyone who would like to use the wine fix can click my affiliate link below:

That being said, a little bird did tell me that there might be some promotions for Berserkerday, so those that are able to wait may want to see what unfurls!

Tried Myrkl last night. I only had about 10 oz. of wine, but I wanted to see if reduced the sleep impact. I don’t wear a monitor, but I can always tell when I have had a drink. Anyway, I think I slept fine, but I woke up extremely groggy as if I had taken Advil PM. I will have a number of opportunities to try this again.

Interesting. I tried it for the first time last night and slept great (which was a nice change from my sleepless nights with Cheers Restore). Woke up feeling fine. Maybe we should trade.

It was my first try with it and I have 14 more doses. I definitely want to give it a fair chance.

I am not sure how effective Myrkl is going to be with 2 drinks; it lowered BAC by like 10% in the trials; I think something like the wine fix is probably going to be more effective for light drinking.

Been using another DHM supplement recently and I like it so far. Effects are modest but noticeable.

10% is 10% regardless, right? I hope to never drink the quantity you drink in one sitting (7-12 glasses).

Anyway, last night my wife and I split a bottle of Champagne and used both Myrkl and Wine Fix. She felt better about her sleep, so I’ll take that as a win.

Well I’m just not sure you’d necessarily notice the difference between 1.8 and 2 drinks is all I’m saying.

Myrkl is supposed to be much more effective if taken as a daily supplement, but also far more expensive as such.

Probably the supplement that may have the biggest effect may be Zbiotics but that is pretty expensive.

Would be interesting to try taking it daily for a week before a big weekend and see if that makes a noticeable difference.

In the study they took it for two weeks prior to the alcohol test and it reduced BAC by 70%!!! Maybe I’ll try it in the two weeks before La Paulee.
