I’m curious how the Burgundy experience has influenced your Clarksburg farming, but I imagine that’s an essay question. So: is there a Guffens of Chenin? Someone whose techniques you expecially like?
Completely understandable! Thanks for the response and looking forward to the next release.
Thank you! Looks like a lot of sediment - sometimes towards the end of a bottle run, the last few cases get a little bit more from the last gallons in tank. Let me know if it was excessive, happy to replace it! ![]()
Thats very nice of you, but a bit of extra texture in the dregs didn’t compromise things. This was a very good bottle of wine.
Tried our last bottle of Wilde Farm Halcon Syrah last night. We have never poured a bottle of wine out until then. Im sure some people like it, but its not for us.
•2021 Sabelli-Frisch Milk Fed 5 Petit Manseng Saureel Vineyard.
I really didn’t know what to expect here. My knowledge of Petit Manseng is limited to a couple of Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh. And this had the weirdest dark brown crystals in the neck, even some attached to the cork. Presumably residual sugar. But this wine is quite dry.
My wife and I were both really impressed with this wine, and found it far more user friendly than we expected. The color on this is absolutely wild : the photo doesn’t really do it justice, and as an added bonus the color changes with the slightest change in light. The glass in the background gives the closest idea of what the fabulous color is really like. It’s slightly oxidative in feel without being at all really oxidative. Just trust. Just loved this.
From CT review:
An absolutely striking gold color, beyond anything burg or Sauternes can offer. The closest color to this I have ever seen is Venissa, made from the rare Dorana di Venezia grape. Wild aromatics: grilled peach and apricot, pear, clove? cinnamon, toast. On the palate, this careens crazily with temperature from a rigid and acidic version of a white rhone to a CA attempted simulation of white burg. I can see this as a very polarizing wine, because it changes rapidly with temperature. Agree with other TNs that the finish gets bitter and slightly dilute as the chill wears off. But it’s not an annoying bitterness as long as there is at least a little chill. I have to say, I loved this.

I loved this wine. And I loved that the color matched the label!
Based on this thread, it appears that 9 out of 10 Berserkers purchased @Adam_Frisch ’s wines this past BD - well done, my friend!
It was so lovely seeing you at Outer Space @LisaT! I picked up your sparkling and haven’t had a chance to open it yet—but I think July 4th will be the perfect occasion! Looking forward to VinDependence Day and hopefully seeing you again in person soon ![]()
Thank you Sonoe! I hope you will enjoy the GRIESEL Blanc de Noir, I got great feedback so far!
It was so great to meet you too and taste your wines.
This was very nice. Wanted maybe 45 minutes of air to relax a bit. Seems built for the long haul but enjoyable now as well.
• 2019 Claire Hill Grist Vineyard Syrah
Had a faceoff of this v a de Negoce #119 Chalk Hill Syrah. Although both wines were noticeably Syrah, otherwise they were very different, with Claire Hill’s being significantly lighter, brighter and less fruit forward. This gave the Grist Syrah the space to be more complex, with easier delineation of florals, plum, a little bit of roasted pork. The Grist also — when compared side by side — had a very complete mid-palate, just a lovely little oomph in dried herbs and plum after a few hours of air. Really nice. Both wines were tasty, but the Grist went 2-0 with tasters for Syrah of the Night.
• 2010 Virage Vineyards Red Blend
If you can’t have a CA red on the 4th, when can you have one?
From CT review:
Reminiscent of Bordeaux rather than an attempt at imitating it. Highish tannins that are pretty well resolved. Lovely combination of bing cherry and bell pepper, a very light touch on vanilla and spice. Medium bodied for its class. Overall a very well balanced wine. I told my wife “this is what CA used to taste like before everything went on steroids.”
Score: 93. Relative to expectations: ++
Did this need any air?
I didn’t decant. It opened up more after about 30 minutes but was pretty good to go after minimal air time.
Picture perfect day at the Jersey shore, people watching from the balcony with a glass of 2021 Stars and Dust old vine Chardonnay
Got that right! It’s been a perfect long weekend here! Where are you in this pic? We live in Brielle……
I don’t think anyone has addressed the crystals you mention. I’d presume that’s tartrate colored by that striking color you mention as well as any lees in suspension. Totally harmless, but residual sugar, not shards of glass, just precipitated tartaric acid and a sign of a minimally processed wine.
