Has Anyone Been Drinking BerserkerDay Wines Lately?

Thanks for the explanation!

Thanks. I have one on deck over the next few days.

Drinking the “Faun” 2020 Zin from @Adam_Frisch. This is phenomenal! Fruity and spiced with black tea on the finish. Why didn’t I buy more this last BD :woman_facepalming: My partner greatly preferred it to the rioja we were drinking.

Bonus pic of the barbecued chicken we had alongside it.

Opened one of Nola’s 2005 Veleta Cabs. I don’t have much experience with Cabs this old, or Spanish Cabs for that matter, other than Nola’s. The cork came out in a few pieces, but that was mostly my fault. Color was a deep garnet with some bricking. The first impression on the nose was leather. Second impression was some alcohol and something else, maybe the funk described above, or aged oak. Taste is hard to describe. No real fruit, a bit of tannins, some kind of spice and something else. Very different from the young, mostly California Cabs I’m used to. I expect that I should have given it more air, and it’s probably a wine to savor on a winter night in front of a fire, but since my wife has the AC turned down so low, I figured why wait. And I have more! Loved this wine. Meant to be enjoyed soon. See how the rest of the bottle develops tomorrow. Love your wines Nola!

This is usually my response after opening a Sabelli-Frisch bottle (even though my cellar is bursting at the seams).

I brought a six pack of the Sabelli-Frisch “Milk-Fed” Pinot Noir to a small fundraising event for donors to my local opera company. (Wasn’t sure how the guests would react to an unfiltered red like this, so there were several other wines provided.) But once the first brave soul ventured to try a glass and enthusiastically remarked on it, this got sucked down. I saved the last bottle for guests who are well-known singers (and referred them to you, @Adam_Frisch ).

My own notes are similar to those I’ve posted before. Fresh, lively, aromatic, delicious with a light chill on a hot summer day. Absolutely the biggest bargain of BD16, and I am super glad I still have some bottles to enjoy.

Yes, so glad I participated. So far I’ve been astonished at how distinctive and tasty these wines can be at these prices.

2020 Keller Estate Rotie. 93% Syrah co-fermented with 7% Viognier. Nice dark fruit, peppery, nice aromatics, good tannins. Drinking just fine now but will be good for a number of years to come.

• 2021 Sabelli Frisch Obie Riesling

This was just the thing for a sultry NJ July afternoon — but that really undersells what this interesting wine offers.

It’s not fair, but our other wine of the night was 2016 Cheval des Andes. I actually like CdA, although the 2016 to me lacks some complexity compared to other years. If we are handing out WotN honors — sorry, I have to give it to the Sabelli - Frisch.

From CT review:

Well, this was a different expression of Riesling! True to Adam’s notes in the label, this did indeed preserve the floral aspects of Riesling (here, unexpectedly, lily) but added a forcefulness to the palate that you won’t get even out of most Germans GGs. Bone dry— no, make that Mojave dry — with an uncompromising granite bitter minerality, Seville orange, and lemon.
There is a severity here that is intentional and I am trying to think of an occasion where it would shine the most. That occasion exists; I just can’t think of it right now. It was, however, well suited to an afternoon in heat that was just at my threshold of “let’s move to the Shetlands”. A Riesling that makes you think.
Score: 91-92. Relative to expectations: ++
