I’ve been trying to catch the Franklin available but it never seems to be? I wonder if they checked out or it’s just that a few are available per day type of thing?
Having gone to school in Nashville and eaten way more chicken than I would like to admit I am STUNNED fried chicken works in this format. Now I am going to have to get some.
We got the Commanders Palace Gumbo and Garlic Bread. Both came frozen and sat in a freezer for a month. Both turned out pretty darn good. I would definitely do it again.
Incredibly delicious bialys, perhaps the best I’ve ever had
Entirely adequate scallion cream cheese
Entirely meh matzoh ball soup. Not as horrible as the Katz’s soup (which should be banned under the Geneva convention) but tasteless and a waste of time. I miss the Carnegie deli matzoh ball soup.
Fantastic, fantastic sable
Really, really good Norwegian smoked salmon. I might have described it as fantastic if I didn’t have it after the sable.
Inedibly salty schmaltz herring fillets. I tried rinsing them and letting them soak in water overnight. Now I’ll try throwing them out.
I’m guessing this was from Goldbelly, but maybe not. Wouldn’t have expected good bagels or perhaps soup, but thought the herrings of all types would be stellar.
And the Goldbelly fufillment center is not the LES location, it’s in Brooklyn. The LES for phone in orders and I usually pay extra shipping to order R&D direct. For the Gaspe Nova, I always ask for Center Cut when I call in. Those are the jewel like slices as big as the plate. At Goldbelly, you sometimes get the drier pieces - but you can save $35 on shipping on a $250 order.
For the sturgeon, they have “Private Reserve” only available by request on a phone order. Not much more per pound.
It was. I was using my Amex credit which has a minimum purchase of $100 so a separate Essa Bagel order of $100 worth of bagels seemed like a bad idea. So I tried R&Ds.
And I’m glad I did or I would never have known how good the bialys were.
They actually improved the bagels at R&D per recent reports but goldbelly may not get the freshest ones. I’ve been told to avoid them but usually include one in a gift so folks don’t have to run out.
I’d rather have almost any local fresh bread over a two day old bagel but your bialy review has me intrigued.
I got the 50 off 100 Amex offer and I’m eyeing the Duck Pie from Monkfuku Ko. Anyone else order that? Been to Ko and great experience there. What wine would go well with such a rich sounding pie? Riesling?
Saw the title of this thread and thought I’d take a peek. My son in law (and to a lesser extent, his wife) likes Goldbelly. His wife went to ASU and when I would visit her we would it Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix. She just recently mentioned to me that she was thinking about putting in a Goldbelly order for some. I’ll pass this on to her.
We have not experienced Goldbelly yet. Our daughter sent us something scheduled to arrive on 12 February. Texas froze. All shipments stopped. Still hasn’t arrived. Maybe never will.
