Girl and the Goat opens today

Very excited that Stephanie Izard’s new place is finally open. Seems it has been a very long time coming. The menu looks very interesting. I made a reservation for a Saturday night in a couple of weeks- very easy with Open Table.

I know one of our esteemed board members attended the advanced opening and posted some fantastic pics on FB.

$25 corkage- 2 bottle max

I’m very interested in having dinner there. Not loving the $25/corkage though…

Edit: You guys are totally right, $25 is very reasonable. I guess I’m getting used to all the free BYO places in Chicago. [cheers.gif]

Really, complaining over $25.00 corkage? Really? At least they are allowing it…

JD

Well then its easy for you- order off the wine list.

Don’t want to start the whole corkage thing- but I agree, $25 is fine with me.

Jay - Let us know your impressions.

$25 corkage is pretty good IMO.

Oh and 2 bottle max

Here is a link to the Photos, not sure it will work…

Facebook" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I am sure you will enjoy…

I only ordered a third of the menu, so there is a lot more to try… also, for groups, they will be doing whole wood fire roasted animal legs… goat legs, veal legs, etc… won’t be on the menu, will have to order in advance… not sure when they will start this, but it will be coming…

Scott, link works and pics look good.

Sounds like a place to hit up when I make it to Chi-town.

As an aside…ask Freakmount about his Foie Gras event this weekend.

Yeah, we can definitely hit it up when you are here (which is when by the way?) among some other places… I have a few places to take you to but of course we will need to grill on the deck at least one night…

It doesn’t bother me that much but it makes the place less offline-friendly. The two bottle max makes it much less offline-friendly though…

Prolly gonna be after September. Schedules for both the wife and I have changed due to work related issues.

I am in France for 12 days in September then in CA for harvest from the 21st until the end of October/beginning of November. So it will have to be in early to mid-november (no outdoor eating though) or the first week of September, otherwise, it is a no go for me…

Anyone see the list yet? I saw some comment about Stephanie “mixing her own wine” which sounds, well, interesting…

Stephanie made wine in Walla Walla with a winery there that is labeling some wine for her. It will definitely be on their list if it is not already. I don’t recall the winery and whether or not it will be co-branded or just GatG labeled.

Have to be November then. I’ll holler when I know more.

Scott how was the third that you ordered? Pics look great.

Can I get on the waiting list? Freakmount will voutch for me… maybe. I can bring some Cameron Hughes. [wink.gif]

I had some minor quibbles that are almost entirely a function of trying to open… but the food is great… great bold flavors, lots of umph, interesting use of asian ingredients without it being fusion… defintel will go back…

Dined there last night - great space, attentive service, excellent flavor in all of the dishes we ordered. The house made bread with onion butter is so good I would go back just for it. Scallops, lamb ribs, deserts were all worth the visit. A very large space with more than 150 seats and it was crowded by 6:00pm. Wines by the glass were good. Another place to recommend.

Ya better bring a chair for him to pass out in as well. I’m just sayin’.
