Wow, very cool. I have someone coming in town that I am meeting tonight for the first time in a long, long time and I am trying to figure out where to go. Not too loud, but fun and good. Maybe somewhere I haven’t been yet. You’ve been to Masu Izakaya right? ther thoughts. Sorry for the drift.
Maybe after they slow down a bit.
I don’t think hot restaurants want or need winos
taking a table for 4 hours and not buying a bunch of wine.
Though, becoming a regular who drops serious coin there and all things change…
I agree. Not every place is good for offlines. But I am going here in a couple weeks with another couple. They are not wine people but I will be bringing a couple of bottles. Looking forward to it.
It is just a function of how you manage it… if you wanted to have an offline there, call them and make arrangements… with a good size group they will roast whole legs and beasts… which could be great
I spent the majority of my day in Wrigleyville yesterday enjoying the various bars and scenery. At about 4 we were getting a bit peckish and I suggested taking a cab down to the West Loop to Girl and Goat. It was a good call. They didn’t even give me a hard time for being in shorts, t-shirt and flip-flops.
We ordered and loved just about everything on the menu – I think we only missed 3 or 4 items. The fried oysters were my favorite – they were ridiculously good. I did try her wine, but my palate wasn’t exactly spot on at that point in the day.
What was everyone’s favorite dish so far? Mine was the fried oysters with egg salad topping. I meant to order a second goat (meat and cheese) pizza but we never got around to it.
When reflecting on the meal, I was kind of confused by the desserts. I can’t really even remember any of them at this point. I remember something with corn and cream – seemed strange.
I’m not a mayo guy and therefore not an egg salad guy, but this was spectacular. I don’t even know how you come up with something like that other than sit around with a Twister like spinner with a bunch of food items on it and start matching stuff up.
My table on Friday kept getting recorded by NBC. Was wondering if I’d ever see the video. The guy who really likes the food was sitting across from me.
I am headed there tonight with another couple. Was going to pack a couple of bottles. Figured I would bring 2 reds and order a white off the list. Any thoughts on what wines might be the best to pair with the food?? My GF is not a big wine person, nor is the other couple. I was thinking of a big Cali Pinot and maybe a 2007 Rhone…???
We had this discussion at dinner last night. When we went there were 3 oyster dishes, 10 veg dishes, 10 fish dishes and 10 meat dishes. To complicate matters she mixed some fish and meat dishes. I’d stick with whites and pinot, personally. I wouldn’t bring an '07 Rhone, of course YMMV.
Went last night- really enjoyed. Loved the vibe of the place- busy, but in a good way. Everyone from the hosts/hostess, waitstaff, even the busboys- very gracious and welcoming. Had cocktail in the bar while waiting for the table. In an homage to my mom, had an old fashion- that had a delicious house marinated spiced cherry!
The food - think we tried 16 dishes- highlights to me …rabbit, scallop dish, goat pizza, all the veggie dishes were great- green beans, shisito peppers. Only miss was the crispy pig face- was just missing something. Oh and did try 2 of the 3 breads of the day- just great. It should be noted that we just ordered tons of things- and it came out when it came out- which was great with us. So not really like traditional courses.
We brought a couple bottles, pinot and CDP. They serve Reidel O type glassware. Need a pretty versatile wine(s) for the food!! Pretty reasonable list most wines in the $45-$70- but didn’t really study it much.
