I tried the '08 Cras a year or two ago and it was quite nice.
Her Baudes can be slightly tannic, but I imagine it would be drinkable ?
Circling back to this thread. We finally made it to the restaurant three weeks late to celebrate our 25th anniversary after I was laid up for a few days when we were initially due to go.
We had a memorable night, whickh included a detailed tour of the 37,000 bottle cellar. Quite an achievement for a pub in the middle of the bush. We were treated like rock stars and the meal was top notch despite being in their bistro, with the fine dining restaurant only open two nights per week.
The 2008 Ghislaine Barthod Les Baudes looked a bit old and sullen on opening, but with air it lost its more aged notes and showed dark briary fruits, some truffley goodness and a mature, yet still quite grainy yet deep palate. I would say start drinking them if you have them.
We started with a 2020 Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts that @Jeremy_Holmes suggested I try. This was Batard meets Premier Cru. Lots of heft, density, a smidge of oak and real length.
Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. It was a really interesting discussion.
Lamb tartare from the property

Stuffed zucchini flowers from the garden to start

Duck leg confit

any characteristic acidic notes with this vintage? my les cras felt like it needed a few more years to fully open up so im surprised to read your advice.
Sounds like a nice time; I’m not sure how their list is priced and how 2019 Rousseau beze is 32k aud???
Yes the value on the list is the wines with age, the newer vintages not so much. The Beze price seems way out of kilter. It’s selling reatil here for about $A5K
Acid was fine for me, it’s just the aroma suggested a wine that needs drinking, but despite perfect cellaring conditions, that could also be an individual cork issue. Need to try another one in the name of science!
Yeah it was more than an older la tache
HI Kent, sounds like a you had a great time.
Need to find an excuse to visit myself and also drop by Mt Gambier as well
cheers Brodie
That’s a fine plan Brodie.
We sat next to some Kiwis last night who were doing the Adelaide to Melbourne road trip, stopping off in Barossa, Coonawarra, Dunkeld.
There’s some good dining options along the way including Brae, Mayura Station, restaurants at Port Fairy…
