German Spatburgunder Master Thread

Sadly I had the same experience. My note simply says “muted, tart, and lean”. Thankfully I only bought one bottle.

After a badly corked regular 21 last week, this was also a little sub par. Sulky maybe.

Too bad. Had it back in July where I thought it was very good after a bit of air.

Starting to dig into the 13 Mosel Pinots I carried back from my recent trip.

First up a new producer to me:

2019 Kirsten-Liebieg - According to their website this is only the second vintage for this wine. It has absolutely beautiful elegant fruit. It was not an oak disaster; however, it had too much oak for me that turned the wine a bit too sweet. We had it next to a beautiful 22 Jean-Claude LAPALU Brouilly that probably made the oak and sweetness stand out even more. I could tell though the fruit was ripe and promising. I was also shocked to see a heavy new world type bottle. I would definitely try future vintages.

Otto, I think we need to put up a ‘Patreon’ system to support your tastings! Appreciate them a lot.

Lol, I guess I’d need a Youtube channel or something to be able to pull it off, I’m not sure a random internet wine board gets enough coverage.

200 berserkers paying 10€ every three months. That’d cover a tasting or three, or at the very least your ibuprofens or pizzas on the day after.

Monthly vote for a new tasting theme etc etc.

That’s a superb idea - although I’m quite sure I’d struggle to find even 20 berserkers willing to pay any kind of money, let alone 200!

Although lucky me I never need any pain medication or any other kinds of drugs on the day after, saves me a lot of money (which is to be used on new tastings, naturally)!

I was under the impression @ToddFrench contracts Otto for his content?!
Otto’s contributions definitely lifts the forum to a higher level, he’s worth every cent!

So precisely $0 at the current rate!

Right?! If I don’t see a bidding war right now between @ToddFrench and @William_Kelley for this grade-A content I’ll loose hope in wine writing.

You need to put your content behind a paywall, and then just post clickbait links here.

I, of course, meant €-cent!

2019 Markus Molitor Brauneberger Klostergarten Pinot Noir **

Overall lovely. The oak is mild in this compared to some older vintages…it will be even more integrated with age. Very bright and elegant fruit. Lovely minerality and grip. Delicious fruit. Had a regal polished feel. A complete, very enjoyable wine to drink. Taking it to dinner tonight at Dept. of Culture. Will report back on how well it pairs with Nigerian cuisine!

Update: This continued to open up and was beautiful. We had it with Nigerian cuisine that had a little spice and heat. It was incredibly versatile and a wonderful pairing.

They started to adjust the oak in a more tasteful way (imho) starting w the 2018s.
The 2020s that I tasted last month were really tight, compact, and dark. Not so much my cup of tea.

Had the '21 WongAmat Rosengarten at Anajak tonight. We both really loved it and it was a more than adequate sub for lack of Wasenhaus. More Burgundian with definite framing from the oak. Lovely dark fruits played bass and more strawberry with herbal elements on the main. Just a prickle of a VA-esque element, balsamic element added interest and made it work better with some of the spicier dishes. A bit light on structure but a complete package as it was.
