Gel Mats: Do you use them/like them?

My Sis gave us a 18"x36" Gelmat for the kitchen a couple of years ago.

It sits on the floor in front of the kitchen sink much the same way we would have anti-fatigue mats by the dish station in restaurants.
I’m not sure I see a value in this thing or it’s supposed benefits.

Anybody else use these?

We have a couple. I like them. Kinda pricey, but comfortable. If it saves your back and feet in the long run, well worth the price.

I have operated on them before. Makes a huge difference if you stand in the exact same place for several hours.

Seems like you should just buy another mat rather than putting it under the knife. Or did the mat have really gold-plated insurance and you just couldn’t resist?

Yes, Front of kitchen sink. Def. helps the feet & legs when preparing food !

It’s SOP for our orthopods that do total joints and spine. They won’t operate without the gel mats.

yeah, have one in front of sink and stove…wont go without them. maybe try removing it for a couple days and see whether you and your better half notice any difference.

I have a pretty big one in front of the stove-top. I like it and find it useful for time intensive dishes like risotto. I also like its washablity as I am a bit messy when I am in my groove. (My dog knows me well and always stands buy awaiting the grated cheese to land).

Try the veal!

We have them at our lotting tables at work. I can barely stand all day anyway, but these make it much more bearable. Right after my back surgeries, we couldn’t afford the gel mats for our kitchen, so we bought a pack of garage foam mats at Costco for $12 and tiled our kitchen floor with them… our kitchen was ugly, but they did the job!

Have two and like them.

Have one in front of our kitchen sink. Love it. Want to get two more: one for in front of stove and one for in front of island where I do most my food prep.

I suppose I could move the one we have around — it would only need to move a couple feet to get to the other two locations, but I don’t do that for whatever reason. I really should move it to where I do food prep., as that’s where I spend most of my time in the kitchen.

We have two… a short and a long. We used to have the same in carpet runners and I don’t know I have a noticeable difference in leg/standing comfort but they are nice. I would be careful of rolling your ankle– off the beveled edge with slippers on!! FWIW.

Big fan here. Recently put one in front of the coffee bar which happens to be in front of the only kitchen window with a view of the Sound. I stand there for the hell of it now.

I’ve found that no matter how long I marinate the gel mats, they still are too chewy.

Just curious: where does the liquid that might spill over…in front of the sink…go?

I’ve bought kitchen mats that allow the liquid to run off/below, as I found wet mats treacherous. Do these have slats for runoff? Do any?

Has anyone ever had issues with the edges rolling up? I have read reports about the mats becoming a trip hazard over time.

Re: Tripping. Now that you mention it, Yeah…my 3yo daughters started tripping over one of them this weekend. I even tripped once myself.

I actually have two mats, one gel…and one thats foam (Costco). The foam one is not as comfortable, but seems to be holding up better (not tripping you) than the gel. Still keeping them both, unless we keep tripping on them.

Ours are three years old and starting to do this. Not happy. Will call GelPro soon and see what they say.

I have a gel mat that was purchased at Costco 3 years ago ($69) and it is holding up well. Wish I would have bought another.
