I would like to offer 3 different bottles of a new, high end, 06 Napa wine to two people on the board. The wine is produced by Jonathan Maltus, who owns several Bordeaux properties, including Le Dome. He also makes wine in Australia. I tasted the California wines in Bordeaux in June and really liked them.
The wine is named “The World’s End.” They are not officially released. Parker has not tasted them yet. All I ask is, the person post their honest opinion, good or bad on the board.
Full disclosure. I like Jonathan Maltus. I think some of his wines are very good. I have no financial interest in this venture. I get nothing out of this except for helping Maltus get exposure for his project.
If you send some up Boston way, I think you could get more exposure than just 1 or 2 people. There must be 12-15 people in the Boston area that hang out here and I’m sure we could get togther to try the wine together and post notes / comments.
I can get them to our business partner Doug Frost - who is an MS and an MW. He’d give you a solid evaluation and he is one of the most qualified tasters on the planet…
Did you really expect to post about free wine and not get a bunch of “oh! Me” answers?
It’s a very kind offer for sure but I think also picking someone who’s going to post good notes is certainly the most important quality in choosing people.
I would also vote for Mike Pobega. I’ve tasted with him a few times now and while I don’t think our palates are synched by any means I trust him to post notes that I could rely on.
It might also be interesting if the persons awarded the bottles do actually try to organize a tasting event around them so other WB members can taste and share their opinions, having a greater number of people try these could get you some better results. (Oh! Me!
I look forward to seeing how this turns out. I like the idea of EC-WC contingents.
I volunteer to bring my camera to Mssr. Pobega and group and vlog about it if we want to go beyond written notes. Otherwise if people are camera shy, I volunteer to be part of the NYC tasting group
If you’re looking for a regular guy, someone who knows if a wine is good or not, without all the details, I’m your man.
So unless the chocolate, blackberries, or forest floor hits me over the head, I’ll give you the man in the street opinion.
I vote for Dan Hammer because he lives near me and if you give the bottle to him I have a chance of convincing him to bring it to my house for a BBQ and share it with me, and then you can get two opinions for the price of one. Three if you want to count my wife, who did manage to nail the blind wine we had on Wednesday as a Syrah, although she did not guess that it was Bolivian.
And Franks could come down from up county and Mike could come and teach us all to make pizza. But we would need both bottles for that! And we could bring in Leo to take the photos, since he’s only 10 minutes away
