FedEx Is Coming Apart at the Seams

I opened it to check, but I might have opened one in a month or two anyway. I wonder if it’s travel shock, maybe I should have waited a couple more weeks. I will say now that it’s been open for four hours it’s tasting more like what I expect from them.

Funny one today.

Box left NYC last night for a few hour drive to DMV for delivery this afternoon. Weather is sunny and 45-55F along I-95, maybe a little cloudy last night.

10:02 AM - “Shipment exception Weather delay”

Wtf?!!? Lol.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and parts of New Jersey on Monday night.

The warning, issued by the National Weather Service, was set to last until 9:45 p.m. Gusts of up to 70 mph and hail are possible, officials said.

People should expect considerable tree damage, NWS warned. Damage is likely to mobile homes, roofs and outbuildings.

Had a UPS wine shipment delayed due to “train derailment”. Yikes !

Thanks, Joe. I did. I did not know there was a storm somewhere in the area yesterday. So my “Wtf?!!?” reaction should just be “Wtf”.

JFK airport reported all of 6/100 of an inch, and it was not raining when the box supposedly departed Brooklyn at 11pm.

Maybe the FDX truck encountered a fallen tree or really big puddle in Brooklyn that they could not drive around? Or the massive thunderstorm so backed up the system that it took 11 hours to issue a weather exception.

Was this FEDEX Overnight Service or FEDEX Ground or FEDEX Home?

Any time I don’t get a FedEx box by mid-afternoon that is showing as ‘out for delivery’ on the tracking, I know the driver isn’t gonna make the delivery that day and they always log it as ‘attempted - business closed’ even if it’s a home delivery. Their cutoff is 2:30 - 3:00 for my neighborhood for some reason. Nearly always shows up the next day…

Just got a text that my package was available for pick up. I picked it up 3 weeks ago.

My shipment from the east coast to San Francisco made it all the way to Tracy, CA. Only to be flown back to Syracuse to make the trip all over again. WTF!!!

Not good but a good excuse on why it is late.

Missed their commitment today with my Flannery Hangers. And I kid you not, they gave a subsequent due date of yesterday!

And my Flannery, due yesterday (Friday) has now been rescheduled for Monday!

Piling on here - my wine storage company has actually stopped outbound shipments because its such a shit-show. Packages sent the the wrong places cross-country, and broken/damaged boxes of expensive Burgundy not reimbursed for over a year now. They said its so bad that they can’t take the risk. So brutal!

Hopefully it’s an overnight package. I had the same problem, package arrived OK. No more shipping overnight on a Thursday.

My packages always get hung up in Tracy. Had some wines stuck there for a week.

It feels like I have been on the phone with customer service on almost every delivery since the fall.
This week delivery was to be made on Weds, nothing! Friday its finally out for delivery. I was home all day waiting, I had to pick up my daughter from school and I miss the driver by less than 5 minutes.
I called FedEx and they said the driver would make another attempt before 7pm. Nope! To play it safe I had it diverted to the Safeway down the street, yesterday morning at 7am I get a text stating that there was another missed delivery. What local driver tries to delivery to customer service/business on a Saturday, much less someone’s house at 7am. I called FedEx again with a WTF! Its BS when you cannot contact the local hub to get realtime information. I can see the same info the agent does on my laptop, so really they are no help!

Hopefully the wine is ok as we had some real cold temps this week!

A new low for FedEx in my experience… big shipment of my wine from the West Coast went missing for 72 hours, even the FedEx trace team didn’t know where it was (apparently FedEx has a second type of independent contractors worse than the usual who use vehicles and trailers that aren’t FedEx in anyway, eg don’t have a FedEx GPS tracker) and when the next update would be, let alone the actual new delivery date. This was problematic as I was going to drive 6 hours to go meet the delivery in another state (the sad new reality with AG’s restricting interstate shipping).

After a over a dozen mostly useless calls, where virtually each time I was told something different than the prior call (including the gem that “yes, the boxes are in California still” — which turned out to be untrue — “but out for delivery today” in a city 18 hours away from CA).

Long, ridiculous story short: most of my boxes were eventually “trapped and held” 4 days after the scheduled delivery in a location much closer than 6 hrs away from me (thanks to some actually helpful work from a FedEx employee at a hub), which would have almost made the hassle and misinformation worth it except a single box slipped through and is being held at the original destination 6 hrs away. And all FedEx will do at this point is let me pick it up there or they’ll ship it back to CA in the now high temps across the southwestern USA. Damnation!

Some good news: Despite some epically cold temps (-4F) over the weekend — days after I was supposed to get the delivery — the wine I have received were ice, ice cold but not frozen (no pushed corks, no tartaric crystals precipitated, etc).

FedEx is so weird. I got a text this morning that a package will be delivered by end of day today. I thought that was weird because it hadn’t yet been tendered from the cold chain shipper to FedEx, and it usually takes 2 days from that transfer to reach my house, but anyway, good news! So I go to the FedEx tracking site to see if I can get a rough idea of the time of delivery, and it shows it was transferred to FedEx early this morning and will be delivered tomorrow, not today.

So somehow the texting system doesn’t appear to be calibrated with the tracking system…

My shipment is on time! So I’m sure Fedex will be able to transport it from Indiana to Minnesota in 2 hours for an on-time delivery.
