What is your favorite ‘go to’ champagne for regular consumption? Non-vintage, punches well above its weight in value, consistently outperforms its peers. Could be large house or grower. Of course this can easily get into a discussion about other sparklers but I’m more focused on champagne here. Mine has been Bollinger Special Cuvee for some time but I’m curious to hear about others.
@Jon_Lawrence probably has some good recommendations.
Laherte Freres BdB Ultradition
Hebrart
Billiot, among others
Billiot went through a tough stretch with the generational switch, but does seem to be back on track lately.
Interesting. I kind of forgot about the wines for a few years and stopped buying them until recently. Recent releases of the regular nv and rosé have been really nice.
No matter how hard I try to rotate others in, we always end up pouring Billecart Salmon Rose more than anything else.
It always was Krug. That’s unfortunate, as what was a joyous occasional splurge, is no longer justifiable given the price.
Aside from that, Roederer was a distant but still enjoyable 2nd. Again though, I’ve long since stopped buying it.
Fizz these days tends to be from the fringes (Vouvray, Sparkling Baga, etc.). It’s not Champagne, nor trying to be, but for me the VFM is much better.
agree, and I think I like the rose even more than the bdb
Pierre Paillard Bouzy Grand Cru “Les Parcelles”
Ugh everything that used to be good value has gone up in price ![]()
Vilmart Grand Cellier can still be had in the $60 range.
Diebolt-Vallois Prestige, especially with some time on cork. A base 2013 last night was as close to Taitt Comtes as you can get in a $50 NV champagne.
For me Lilbert entry level BdB for sure as I buy direct every year and the price remains very low at the domaine.
Where do you find Grand Cellier for 60?
I usually buy from the Hollywood K&L for $75.
Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve Special. 49.99 preorder at WHWC.
This is mine, too.
Seconding Heidsieck Brut Reserve, which is by a large amount the largest single-SKU holding in my cellar. Does very well with some time on the cork as well. This pretty well scratches the itch for a richer/broader style.
Sideways to your question, but for those who prefer a more edgy, mineral style, Marcus Goodfellow’s Oregon sparkling wines represent extremely good value for money and we also go through these at a decent pace.
Thirding the Heidsieck recommendation, especially in magnums which are superb after a few years in the cellar.
Price not being an issue, Krug Grande Cuvee.
For something much lower priced, Andre Clouet Grande Reserve.
What can I say? I like leesy, indulgent Champagnes.
