This is another great option. My local big-box liquor store carries this in 375s, very useful.
+1 on Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve Special
+1 on Pierre Paillard Bouzy Grand Cru “Les Parcelles”
These two for me as reliable NV champagne
Roederer “Collection”
I bought a case from Saratoga for sub $60 not too long ago but it looks like $65 now. They have always been great on price with that wine for some reason.
Obviously krug grande cuvee, otherwise I do like the diebolt vallois prestige.
Laherte Freres - BdB Brut Nature
Aubry - 1er Brut
Roederer - Collection
Paul Bara - Rose
these are the “daily drivers”.
Alright thank you, got some searching to do.
Forgot to mention that the wine seems to be a permanent part of their case ships free. You can mix/match.
For me: Drappier Carte d’Or. Can usually be had for sub $45, sometimes as low as $30ish and hits that spot for richer champagne styles. Also does well with some additional time in bottle.
Honorable mentions:
Hebrart Rose
Gimonnet BdB - for the slightly fresher brighter profile
I love this wine so much. Fully agree.
Alexandre Filaine Cuvée Spéciale or DMY
Egly Ouriet Grand Cru
They are a little more costly but oh, so worth it.
I’ve been very happy with Pierre Gerbais Grain de Celles Extra Brut, particularly with some time in the cellar. A recent 2012 base disgorged in 2016 was sensational.
Bollinger Special Cuvee for around $60
Since you’re in CA, WHWC near you is taking pre-orders at $63 per right now, no minimum.
J. Lassalle Cachet Or for ~$40
Pierre Gerbais Grains de Celles and Péhu-Simonnet Face Nord are good suggestions (disclaimer: we sell these). Gonet-Medeville was another I used to buy around the same period as the Gerbais.
Others worth mentioning: A. Bergère BdB Soléra, Leclerc-Briant Extra-Brut, Bruno Paillard 72, Geoffroy Expression. I could add ten or twenty more which just goes to show I don’t have ONE favorite go-to.
I think fully back on track the last couple of years. The most recent disgorgements I’ve tasted (delivery taken November 2025) of both the Tradition and the Grande Reserve specifically are probably the finest I’ve ever had. The Rose’ is fabulous as well.
Champagne has always been my go to wine.I had a 3000+ bottle cellar with over 400 bottles of champagne most of which is being sold on consignment by Benchmark.
My house favorites for all occasions are Billecart NV Brut and the Rose($$), Ruinart BdB and Rose, Veuve Fourny (multiple bottlings) and Drappier Carte D’or Brut are nice bottles with a a lower cost but high QPR
I buy in numbers whenever I can find any of these at a decent price. I love all of them across most releases:
Bollinger Sp Cuvee
Bereche Brut Reserve
Heidsieck Brut Reserve
Camille Saves Rose
Goutorbe Rose
Paul Bara Rose
There are other no-brainer buys but those turn up most often….though Goutorbe has been rare on the West Coast recently.
