Hey Nick- I am going to be up there this weekend, and will be tasting through these FM’s w/ Benoit. I’ll report back with some thoughts. Also looking forward to checking out their new tasting room in St Helena as well…
Yup. In for a 3 pack.
We had an 18 last night. Fantastic.
Reminded me of the 18 Memento Mori LPV.
Surprisingly approachable but best at the 2 hour mark.
In for 3. Tasted the 2017 a few weeks ago with Nikita in their new tasting room at their office building, and was throughly impressed. The 2019 Sleeping Lady was also really good.
Zachary- get FM on your radar (and in your collection). If you like Benoit’s wines, then you will love this personal project of his. Great wines and still below the mendoza line ($200)…
In for 3. Excellent value for the vineyard and winemaker IMHO. Going to be forgotten in the back of the cellar for a few years with the other 2019 Sleeping Lady and Missouri Hoppers.
Ted- in the last month I have had both the '19 Missouri Hopper and the Sleeping Lady, to see if I wanted to buy more.
With the Lady, it is rocking with a couple hours decant ( I will be buying more this weekend when I am up there).
The MH was a but more uncertain for me. Maybe it was the fact that it was my first 2019, but it was very muted with not much structure (for my palate at least). Not what I was expecting, but still a nice wine. I am looking forward to trying this again to see if the experience differs.
We are tasting at Brion, FM, Arrow & Branch, and Kelly Fleming. Have a couple dinners lined up with some winemakers as well. Its a short trip, in and out in 48 hours…
I’ve never been either- Brion is located at Sleeping Lady Vineyard in Yountville, in some refurbished wine barn (probably a Howard Backen project like everything else up there). Apparently its 3-4 single vineyard wines (Lady, Oakville Ranch, Moon Mt and a site in Coombsville) that are made by different winemakers (Julien Fayard, Mark Herold, and I am forgetting the names of the others) for each site. I asked some of my Napa friends ITB and they had heard good things about the project. I’m tasting there tomorrow afternoon so I can report back…
