:wine_glass: ABOUT PERKINS-HARTER

Perkins-Harter wines are old-school, minimal-intervention, classic stylings primarily from Bracken Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills of Oregon.

In focusing on 15.5 hillside acres planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Aligoté and Pinot Meunier, my vision as a winegrower evolves with every vintage. As a micro-winery operation, I proudly produce less than 800 cases of wine every year and handle my own winemaking as a one-woman operation. I inject a heavy amount of love into the Bracken Vineyard with integrity, sustainability, and mindfulness - utilizing both organic and biodynamic practices. I also bring an understanding of complex sciences to my work as a former student of geology  and environmental law :herb:, a past life as a nuclear waste lawyer :atom_symbol:, and an emerging tech :robot: policymaker. Embracing my nerd and rolling out the nuke themes this year…so get ready :atom_symbol:

My wines are an extension of how I live, farm, and create - using Bracken as both my inspiration and medium. It has been a great privilege to make wines in the vineyard and care for this place from its first vintage until the present. My wines are not meant to be perfect or consistent - rather, I make these wines with low intervention to provide myself with a lens into the vintage and vine evolution of Bracken. I have immersed myself in the winegrower’s life on this hillside we have come to call the Eola Bench - the place I live, work and grow wine. It has been my honor to be supported by the amazing team at Stirling Wine Grapes and my ongoing list of grape clients - some of whom are sellers here today, including: @Will_Hamilton, @Erica_Landon, @AkikoShiba @ChrisWichern @grant_coulter, and @Renee_Saint-Amour. So be sure to check out Violin, Walter Scott, Shiba Wichern and Hundred Suns - amazing people, amazing offers! My deepest thanks to each of them for their support and contribution to the understanding of the terroir of Bracken Vineyard and the Eola Bench, love you guys!

Berserkers - your support means everything to our small family wineries. Thank you for supporting the people who are working to build the culture of agriculture on BD17!!!

:grapes: A NOTE ABOUT THE 2024 VINTAGE

I am really excited about every one of these wines from the 2024 vintage. Not only were the Northern Lights on show, but so is the vineyard. The vintage is more akin to the 2022 vintage after the more light and fresh expressions in 2023. The 2022 vintage was heavy in mildew and botrytis, yielding some really beautiful wines. As an organic farmer, I noted that the 2023 wines emerged with a carryover of the biotic load of the 2022 vintage. The epic conditions of 2024 saw a re-emergence of balance in the fungal microbiome in the vineyard - a balance which is truly apparent in the 2024 wines. The lesson to be captured here is that no one vintage stands alone - but instead represents a progression amidst what has occurred in the vintages leading up to that point in time. This is the lesson of the 2022-2024 arc of wines at Bracken.

THANK YOU BERSERKERS!

My wife and I spent a magnificent morning walking the vines with Shelby this past summer. I never considered the relationship between enology and nuclear politics before, but she made it all make sense somehow. The Isotropic Shift (or indeed, any P-H wine) is an easy grab.

Got a chance to visit Shelby this past Spring and had an unbelievably great time walking/driving around Bracken and chatting about life, wine, art and music. Gave Tater and Porkchop many pets and had a lovely lunch. I had to go in for the “New Reactor Core” for that Bracken goodness.
