You guys act like you haven’t had any wine in the cellar to drink the past 3 months. Michael seems to have handled things quite reasonably. Yes, promising a date in March when he had no control over that date probably wasn’t the best idea, but it doesn’t seem unforgivable.
Also, if you can’t wait 8 months for the wine, it doesn’t matter what the weather is like. Ship it now as 80-90° heat isn’t going to change anything if you are drinking it immediately.
I received mine on 4/28. It had the following language:
Hello All,
After long last, I have all the wines labelled and back in the warehouse and am ready to start shipping. First, thank you for your patience. Second, please email back if you have new shipping needs/requests, but only if there is a change. Otherwise, I will just ship as planned.
Nope… all that I got was an email saying they would finally start shipping and that was on April 28th.
It’s kind of crazy that this is approaching the 4th month of waiting.
I’ve learned a big lesson on this one, as I had planned to use the vertical for a small event.
oh well, it’s an expensive lesson for sure !
While I certainly agree that the wait has been frustrating, in all due respect, he charged $150/case - Shipped. For a quality pinot, nonetheless. Plus he’s offered to hold the wine until a comfortable shipping window presents.
While you may disagree, I think that 3-4 months wait with little update other than his April 28 email is probably a bit excessive. However, this is now like “waiting for Godot” and gets compounded with no further info. I am not looking for him to hold the wine for me as I can do that so that’s not an appeasement for me.
I am aware that he is a one-man-show and is trying to wind down his operation. The delay at the bottling site certainly added to the time line.
I think that we can all agree that the sound of crickets is never a good sign so I am trusting that this is one great quality pinot as you note below.
I checked with him and got the following and figured I’d share:
“I expect that all shipments will be out the door by early next week. If you want to hold, I’m happy to but I think shipping will be fine unless things get really hot. My shipper has an automatic hold based off temp, so if things get too hot, it will auto hold.”
Good enough for me. $150/case shipped from someone who’s had to end their business gets a lot of leeway in my book… others can have their own opinions, but there’s always adventures in wine buying.
