Eating and Drinking in Los Angeles

If he wants to go all out and has time to get a reservation Somni would be the best choice. Two michelin star level tasting menu.

Meteora - Mexican by Chef Jordan Kahn of Destroyer and Vespertine. A notch below Somni.

I hear Horses is still good and they have survived despite a very bizarre public spat with the original chef couple that opened it.

Bar Etoile from DomainLA is close to West Hollywood would be a good bet.

Night + Market is a good casual choice. Thai.

Why do you think I message you when I’m looking for ideas? :upside_down_face:

Thanks so much Robert. Exactly what I needed. I passed this along to my brother and report back. He is going this upcoming weekend.

Haven’t been to Mr. T but heard it’s fun. Have been to Gwen & liked it a lot

Stella fits his bill if he wants to stay in weho. Cocktails and food.

It’s such a pain getting in and out of weho that if someone only has a short time I usually say stay there or Beverly Hills for dinner.

Thats like a 30 min Uber ride on a weekend night if he’s staying in the most eastern part of weho. If he’s staying further west, game over

I have not heard Meteora described as Mexican before. Though I have not been, friends have and did not relay a Mexican vibe. The sample menu has a few ingredients like, chiles and huitlacoche, but it seems pretty far from Mexican.

For reference, here is a recent menu:

Tulum through the eyes of Mad Genius Chef Jordan Kahn Stunning meal that showcases Chef Kahn’s brilliance. Tulum inspired.

Last time I checked Tulum was in Mexico. I have been to Tulum a few times including twice for Noma and I see the inspiration in the food as I have been a few times.

Where is that quote from? Nothing on the website mentions Tulum. I’ve been to Tulum too.

CUISINE

Chef Jordan Kahn (Vespertine, Destroyer) and the team present a contemporary and creative showcase of exceptional California ingredients prepared over live fire.

Meteora partners exclusively with sustainably-minded farmers, foragers, fishermen, and ranchers to bring guests the ultimate dining experience.

Vespertine and Meteora have Mexican influences, but I think very few people would consider them Mexican restaurants. Fantastic restaurants regardless.

The entire restaurant is based on Tulum. Is it what you expect when you think of Mexican cuisine…no. Regardless it is based on cuisine from Mexico I know this for a fact from talking to Jordan.

michelin announcements coming in one week for CA

Odd they did it on a wednesday. I know a few chefs that aren’t attending because of it.

LA is going to see a few well deserved new ones - which is always exciting.

Rooting for Kato getting two stars, as the food gets even more incredible with every visit. They deserve to be in the upper echelon with the other places in LA with two stars.

Stars to Somni, Ki, Seline… Do you think Somni will get 1 or 2?

michelin is not afraid to give 2 out the gate. One of our clients in Orlando - Sorekara - got 2 stars out the gate.

Somni already had two stars in its old rendition, so even less of a leap

Also there’s one restaurant you’re missing that’s getting a star  - i’ll leave the mystery up for next week

If we’re saying there’s more stars being handed out, I hope for Baroo but probably not. More likely Mori Nozomi since that’s gotten a ton of hype and Bibendum’s American fetish is tiny expensive sushi counters :joy:

Baroo and Anajak deserve it.

Summer is shaping up for several high end and high profile openings. Corridor 109, Casa Dani, Darling, Mayden Market, Jade Rabbit, etc… Thrilled to see so many new places amidst the epidemic of closings.

Would they give Sei a star?? That mala lamb pizza is still one of the best things I’ve eaten.
Or possibly Kusano?

I don’t see Sei getting a star (but I haven’t had the tasting menu). Excellent pizza, but not quite star worthy for me (and especially not if you consider the whole experience, which isn’t Michelin star level even though I love it there [and even thought they claim only the food affects the ratings]).
