Eating and Drinking in Los Angeles

yah cool spot - seafood based dishes are where they excel.

Thanks for the heads up. This isn’t what was reported on Eater. I was thinking of going there for an upcoming anniversary, but now we’ll go somewhere more special occasion worthy.

I like Verse. Flavor pop food. Great space and well done live music.

Taking some out of town friends to the Academy’s motion picture museum on a Monday.

Republique is closed on Mondays. Nearby is Noree Thai (sister restaurant to Luv2Eat) . Anyone been? I like the menu and liked Luv2Eat.

Backup would probably be Angelina Osteria. Open to suggestions.

Just a report back - loved Verse.

Amazing food - try various Dry Aged fish and duck! - with an excellent wine selection. Matias, the Somm, has exceptional pairing skill. Service is top shelf. I did a chef menu (kudo’s to Chef Oscar Torres) that was simply exceptional. Truly LOVED the dry aged duck. The live music is perfectly balanced sound levels, perhaps not surprising as they have an attached (and acclaimed) sound recording studio.

No need to highlight Anajak here. However I have to say they have taken it to the next level. Last nights meal was absolutely perfect on all levels. I absolutely LOVE the place so much. The energy, the vibe, the food, the strive for perfection. I can’t wait to go back.

That was a great choice, thanks. Not fancy but great flavors , great ingredients. We liked everything we ordered, which was a lot.

Finally hit RVR for brunch on Sunday. We really loved everything about it and will definitely be going back! The wine list is great, sadly as I looked around I saw maybe one person out of 50 with a wine glass. The food was very good, especially the dishes that were from seasonal ingredients. The vinyl based sound system is cool.

Some friends from London (originally from Germany) will be in LA for a week and staying in Beverly Hills. They’re into fancy places (Michelin, etc.) as well as unique meals.

So far, I’ve recommended republique, RVR, Vespertine, Somni, Rasarumah, Verse, Anajak, n/naka.

Anything else I should mention? Thanks in advance.

I love Baroo, it is my favorite along with Anajak.

If they are staying in Beverly Hills Spago is still good in a nostalgic kind of way and they might enjoy a Schnitzel! Other places not on your list if they are not looking for cutting edge and just want fancy Providence. If they are looking for something more cutting edge Restaurant Ki. Also Kato would fit.

RVR and Rasaruman are not at all fancy. Nor is Anajak however the food is incredible.

Vespertine: as new wave as food gets in LA
Somni: high end multi course
Ditroit, Si Mon, Holbox or Loreto: creative Mexican
Seline: multi course new American
Melisse or Providence: multi course, refined but not cutting edge
Bistro Na or Good Alley: Superb Chinese

Very LA suggestions (good for lunch)
Musso & Frank: famous institution in Hollywood
Pink’s: Hot dogs
Langer’s: Corned Beef sandwich
Apple Pan: Hamburgers

Not super far in Santa Monica, I love both Seline and Melisse.

Spago isn’t Michelin starred, but I agree it’s a great time and I feel it’s underrated.

For a quicker and casual lunch with excellent food, I recommend Pizzeria Sei. I just went a few hours ago and it’s as good as ever (and only $30 corkage).

That’s a switch (at least from what I hear) at Spago. I haven’t went for years, but was underwhelmed last time.

I’ll have to give it a try again. Who’s the chef these days?
