Eating and Drinking in Los Angeles

Yes. You’re accurate. But there’s also quite a few restaurants that fit this bill. It always surprises me when they open up but it draws a dedicated clientele that spends a lot of money on alcohol and food. You’d be shocked how much money is spent on alcohol each night.

What’s even crazier is usually it’s groups of women spending large amount of money on alcohol. I’m talking I’ll see 2-3 women order multiple 4 figure btls of wine/sake.

Word spreads fast on Little Red Book. First time I showed a chef he was being talked about on it - he said “so that’s why I I keep getting gifted X bottle of alcohol”

A restaurant with 12 tables (mostly 2-tops) is “too large”. Wow.

It does seem something like 8-10 seats is common these days at upper end places.

Anybody know what’s going on with Leopardo?

Looking for a place in Culver City other than Hatchett Hall (love it but winter menu isn’t the most appealing) or N/Soto (closed on Tuesdays). Looking for fish and veg dishes, BYO friendly).

Juliet. I hear good things and byo friendly.

It is and they are.

Also, Roberta’s is a one minute walk away if you want NYC pizza.

It’s been so long I barely remember - great and varied vegetables, a ton of noise

Bar Chelou is closing. The epidemic continues.

Enjoyed my one meal there. It was a quirky type vibe. Bummer.m

This seems more like a special circumstance due to its proximity to the fires.

Ah shoot. That was top of the list for a Pasadena visit that just hasn’t happened.

I think they were probably already looking not to renew their lease if they were able to cut a 2 year lease.

Pasadena is a hell hole for even a semi decent restaurant cause the general demographic just wants boring steakhouses and middle of the road Italian.

And to add, that location at the playhouse has not produced a long term restaurant in many years.

Nice write up for @DAVID_GIBBS and his bar Augustine and their journey to reopen after a kitchen fire. Looking forward to visiting soon.

I thought Kali is being closed for renovations, but not deviating from fine dining, while Koast is the casual spot. I dont think it makes sense to open a casual spot in the same area as Kali and then also change Kali to a competing casual spot.

Has anyone been to Verse yet? It’s in Burbank area.
