What have you planned?
Just arrived in summer house and have a classic four:
Due to scheduling issue, we had an early Easter dinner last weekend, and had the Vilmart Cuvee Rubis with our ham. Perfect pairing.
Usually go with Champagne to start and Bandol rose (or Cibonne) with ham, but having lamb this year (may also do a ham) so will probably put a red in the mix, maybe 2017 Faury VV or 2019 Jean-Claude Marsanne St. Joseph.
post a note (and an obligatory deck photo) on the 1990s please! Am curious, thnx
Idk why, but I’ve always liked to have Italian wine on Easter. Probably bc I grew up with a Catholic Italian half of the family that made a big deal of Christian holidays. May not be the best with usual Easter fare, but that’s usually the direction I go.
I’ve never had Barolo Mascarello Barolo, but I have a single bottle in the cellar. It’s a 2012, kind of a meh vintage, but a producer I’ve always wanted to try. So maybe that.
It actually makes a lot of sense both as far as food/wine pairing and for cultural and religious reasons. At least to me.
Barolo with Easter roast lamb would be amazing.
Serre 1990 was super charming
Smooth operator, ripe red fruits in a point balance between mature and fresh. Nice complexity for its level also with a bit of herb notes. So tasty that the bottle did not last long. Really delivers - extreme QPR, as market value would be low. Happy I still have some back home
Easter Sunday is always roast ham in accordance with my wife’s part Slovak ancestry. (I have a bigger say for the Xmas menu so it’s only fair that she gets to pick for Easter). Maybe a Goodfellow rosé? Either that or a very full bodied CA Chardonnay, like Aubert.
Probably a red wine with pizza, as Passover will be over.
Prime rib roast, going with Laurent Perrier Rose for apps and 2014 Paul Hobbs Beckstoffer Las Piedras with the main
Louis Roederer Champagne Brut Nature Rosé Cuvée Starck 2015 with breakfast as we setup. Probably a bottle of Pax Sonoma Hillsides Syrah (TBD) with the roast lamb and smoked picanha.
d’Angludet was certainly also in a yummy phase - however not quite as strong and deep as Serre 1990. Worked great with Wagyu. Classic green pepper and tobacco in a nice balance with the fruit. Maybe served a bit on the cold side as we were dining outside in the sunny Danish Easter weather
Usually have roasted or grilled lamb. Figured it would be time to open up some Southern Rhône wines and check in some 2009 St Prefert Charles Giraud
Had one last year - it should treat you right
Easter Monday is likely to be something from Morgan Ranch — part of me really wants to crack open one of my 2012 Conseillantes. Either that or the 2017 Schrader can’t -remember-which- cuvee I have.
Awesome! I’ve always loved her wines. Have never tried the 2009 or 2010. Been sitting on them since release.
'90 Beaucastel, '15 & '16 Coudelet de Beaucastel
Probably not much on Easter Sunday itself as we are traveling that day. But from Tuesday, whatever we come across for the five days we are in San Sebastián. Looking forward to what’s on offer among the 40,000 bottle list at our Wednesday lunch at Kaia Kaipe.
Making do with the limited reasonably-available wines during our extended stay here in BGC (Manila), but am excited with the 2009 G Conterno Barbera d’Alba Cascina Francia, one of few bottles that I hurriedly threw into the suitcase from my wine fridge before heading off from NYC.
Hitting a local Italian spot for our Easter dinner.
