Looks like Dupuis didn’t make it.
Jeez… Selling everything including the basketball hoop.
This is really sad
I’m so sad to see this, we were I think the first to visit Well’s at Dupuis and we had such an amazing time, just breaks my heart to see this for such a talented winemaker. I hope he makes a comeback in the future.
There’s probably no way to ask this without someone uncharitably thinking I’m doing something wrong, but I am curious about what happens to this:
Part 3 of 3: (350) cases of Pinot Noir California red wine from Anderson Valley. Located in wine storage in Hopland, California.
Does the buyer just distribute this into retail as DuPuis wine? It looks like 2020 was the last vintage for DuPuis to hit the shelves, maybe these are 2021s and/or 2022s?
Or does it become something different, and if so, what?
I would imagine shiners or Grocery Outlet kinda thing.
Wanna go in on it guys? $20/case
At $20 case yes
I wonder if they’re shiners, maybe Costco swoop in and buy it? Could last bottle take a lot that big?
It would be pretty awesome if there were some collective action possible to get that wine to WBers. Maybe we get binding pledges for 350 cases at some max $ amount, and then someone bids at the auction up to the total amount and see if we get them.
There are a bunch of other logistical hurdles to doing that, so I’m guessing it wouldn’t happen unless @ToddFrench or someone made it an official undertaking (and I’m not saying he ought to, just that it would probably take something like that to pull all the threads together).
Read the disclaimers for the “Part 2 of 3” auction. That’s the one for shiners and wine in barrel, and it looks like you have to be licensed to bid in that auction.
The “Part 3 of 3” auction is for fully labeled wine sold by individual case, and I would imagine any of us can bid on any of those lots. Picking up would be a bit of a hassle but I’m sure it’s great juice so could be worth it.
With preference going to the bidder wanting the largest portion I would imagine.
For a small fee (fuel cost) I could drive my Isuzu box truck to Booneville or wherever to pick wine up. After that it’s up to the individual bidders to handle their shipping.
Got 8 days to come up with a plan.
The wine is stored at Feliz Creek Cellars in Hopland, CA. They give a very narrow window for pickup, “Tuesday, July 30, 2024 - Wednesday, July 31, 2024 between 09:00 AM (PT) - 03:30 PM (PT)” and by appointment only.
2019 Le Benedict 145 cases
2020 Elswick 42 cases
2020 Estate 163 cases
Starting bid $5/case, each case is an individual lot.
Dang, can they ship it?
Looks like they cannot ship. But maybe we can all piggy-back on @Brian_Tuite and load up his truck with wine! I’d go too but it would be a 2hr drive for me to get out there.
Maybe we can pay @Brian_Tuite an additional handling fee of 10% or something to compensate him for his time and effort.
Sounds great!
@Brian_Tuite that sounds like a plan to you? haha
Where are you locate if we are really going to pull this off?
Sounds like you’re going to need a bigger truck!
Yeah I can do it. Hopland is about 45 minutes North of me. People would have to pay their bills send me a copy of their invoices for me to do the pick-up. I wouldn’t want to bother for less than say 20-30 cases so it depends on the interest level.
In, pretty flexible on total price to be part of it.
It’s too bad we can’t figure out a way to do this, and get Wells more than what the auction will likely bring in.
