Dry January? Not with this lady

She has a point, you know. :slightly_smiling_face:

Stay strong, wine lovers!

I do “dry” in between bottles, 24/7 year round; why make it any worse than it needs to be?!?

I’ve been off wine for 5 days due to a tooth extraction and have 2 days to go, and it sucks. There is nothing positive, refreshing, or reinvigorating about it lol. It’s a 100% detriment.

I look forward to it every year, as part of a larger reset.

Ditto Sarah.

I’ve been doing it quietly for about 10 years. I gain a lot from it.

It’s still surprising to me how many people who do regularly drink ask me to actively defend my decision rather than benignly wishing me well.

I thought you’re supposed to lose a lot from it? Lol

Those who do…good for you.

Those who don’t…good for you too.

I never will, as an owner of a January birthday.

Well, David, you could always try Dry February. Fewer days too! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I think the people who do dry January are the people who least need to do dry January.

In 2021, the alcohol campaign group Alcohol Change UK — Dry January is one of their signature achievements — entered into a three-year partnership with the University of Stirling, with a handful of other universities bringing up at the rear. They worked with FrameWorks, a communications research company, and did the following […]

I do “dry whenever we visit my mother in law” which is penance enough.

I mostly have done it the last few years. There are typically 1 or 2 events that I “cheat” on.

Taking the bait tho, my issues with DJ are:

  1. people that act like it is actually a big deal and hard to do.

  2. virtue signaling

  3. People that are somehow offended or otherwise care that someone is doing it.

It’s just not a big deal one way or another.

We’re in.

I, Todd French, hereby benignly wish you well, my friend.

I just remember someone on here posting that they were eating two deserts a night in December knowing they would clean up in January. My god.

To completely bludgeon yourself for 11 months to then “cleanse” for 31 days….

All things in moderation… except bicycling. Do that a lot.

Curious if there would be any difference in outcome if you just cut 1/12 of alcohol consumption throughout the year?

I’m not speaking for people here but I have a feeling when one goes dry (on anything) for a spell and then returns the return level usually spikes at least short term.
Hey I went 30 days with out whatever and now I’m going to devour everything in sight.

I go most weeks ‘dry’ for 3 or 4 days (4 days this week, for example) - more 3-day dry weeks during football season, more 4-day dry weeks off-season

No defense required to me. That doesn’t make it any less dumb. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
