I find that type of system works better for me as well. Not so torturous as to deprive myself at length from things I enjoy. Short term is pretty easy though.
Isn’t this why fad diets don’t work long term?
This is what my wife and I have done for 20 years. Works for us. Never felt compelled to give it up for a specific month.
More like 4 days a week dry as I get older as there is no denying the negative impact alcohol has on getting good sleep.
I find it generally pretty arbitrary. I don’t drink most of most months, so I’ll generally be participating for at least some of the month, but am doing a long weekend of events mid month.
That said, anything promoting decreasing alcohol consumption is likely not a bad thing from a health perspective.
I don’t know of any real statistics, but most people I talk to say the opposite - after a longer dry spell, they actually drink less when they start again.
A somewhat contrarian point of view, which I have shared before, though in no way meant to criticize the moderation choice - we don’t have much interest in moderation. A glass of wine is of no interest to us, most of the time. I’d rather have none than one. For me, half a bottle is perfect, if I am going to drink at all. If we open a bottle, we almost always finsh it. And yes, we sometimes open a second, though I usually drink less than my 'fair share" of that, since I am half Jonathan’s size.
To each his own, of course, but the thought of just a glass isn’t fun for me. I also don’t want a spoonful of ice cream. If I’m having ice cream, I’m having a scoop or two. Or one cookie, unless it’s huge, of course. I’d rather say no most of the time, and then have the amount I want when I do indulge. Fortunately, what I want is generally not a truly unreasonable amount, so there is that.
That’s sort of how we are but probably drink less often; we basically drink at dinners and events and rarely at home, although we will if we want to, which is not very often.
Funny you should mention - we took delivery of a fresh capon today, and will cook half tomorrow. It would not have worked while I was doing PSMF, as it’s too high in fat. But I have raised my daily fat for the next phase, and a small portion of capon can fit my macros if I am careful through the day. It’s not too different from your chicken legs.
I’ve recently been experiencing something similar.
I spent decades drinking most every night, with the only breaks typically occurring when I had some nasty head cold or other illness, or when I had a trial coming up (I typically cut everything out a month or so ahead of trial, just to be as clear headed as possible).
