DP 2012 released

Thanks for posting this. I think this will be the best price for '12 Luminous we will see despite being from Zachy’s.

These showed up today. Came in an OCB 2-pack non GB. They included instructions which seemed a bit condescending because you just press the on/off bottom to make it “luminous.” I feel like a club kid.

I would look to sell some of '08 at a profit to buy more of the '12 if I liked DP so much. Problem with this is that I think better values exist at a lower price point. However, the name recognition is not there with lower price point champers. I’ll buy a couple cases if I see it less than $150.

I bought a couple of cases at $150 on release, but good luck seeing that again.

Agreed. I stopped by to see one of my local ITB buddies the other day and he told me he was only able to get 2 6-packs of '12 DP and he can’t even get a reload '10 DP (not that I would want any). Plenty of '12 DP was produced, but it is nearly impossible to find it in any quantity and most prices are at more than $200/btl. So when LVMH prices the next tranche, they will price it at current market, yes? No reason to go back to 1st tranche pricing.

I for one think the days of big houses offering lots of supply on release is over. They have enough cash to limit supply and drive up price. This would not work if the demand did not exist, but it does and Champagne is still a relative bargain to a lot of other wines. Tough vintages might be different.

My wife and I had the 2008 and 2012 side by side last night. I asked her try them blind to get my bias out of the way. We preferred the '08. They both showed ocean breeze and oyster shell on the nose with '08 adding a floral element. On the palate, both had white peach and pear with '12 having sour lemon and the '08 meyer lemon. The '12 was more linear whereas the '08 had greater presence, sweetness and a longer finish. This was not the greatest bottle of '08 I have had by a decent margin and I have heard others say they think the '08 is shutting down. I don’t typically find Champagne shuts down, but rather evolves. I have some Legacy bottles arriving in a couple of weeks and it will be interesting to see how they are drinking now compared with the green shield. My first 6 bottles of '08 DP were Legacy bottles and they were delicious. My ranking of best DP vintages on release going back to '96 would be '08, '12 and then '96.

I was under the impression that the legacy bottles were the same wine as the regular label. Is this incorrect ?

How much and for how long can they hold back supply and still sell through? I mean I’m sure they want the best price, but they also need to move a lot of product.

I believe they are the same, but then I always thought the '02 Warhol labels drank better than '02 green shield. Could be the fancy labels are playing with my mind and making me believe they are better?

The market has already jumped so they could release at any time. Maybe they are waiting for stocks of '10 to sell through?

Not to cross threads, but has anyone seen the ‘12 at Costco?

Not in AZ. But I keep looking every time that I go [cheers.gif]

Pallets of 10 at my Costco. Do they ever mix? Should I hunt at the bottom?

You should demand they open all the pallets for you to inspect

I imagine they are using this season to clear out the 10s to the holiday-only amateurs. Wouldn’t make sense to bury in some 12s unless by accident.

A case of Dom is only 6 bottles. They don’t ship in 12 bottle cases. But that’s still a lot of bottles of one wine.

I’ve seen my Costco in Denver mix vintages of Dom. Especially around Christmas time. Haven’t seen the ‘12 yet.

Yep, same here. When 09’s were still in market and the 08s had just landed, I found four 2008 Legacy Editions mixed in with pallets of the 2009s. #CostcoScore

Same, ‘08 and ‘09 were mixed in the same display. Scored 7 bottles of ‘08 by digging. Alan, you can ask them to look in their inventory, they should know what vintages were delivered.
