Excluding any taxes/relocation fees for either- just retail from link to de Negoce price I calculate 75% discount here. That’s why I’m still purchasing wines from de Negoce.
Happy Hunting as they say.

Yes, I do age my wines hoping to drink at their peak. What I meant to write is that I bought 2022 dN cabs and I normally buy known cabs that may be 2018 or older so I don’t have to wait as long to drink them.

The Washington reds have shown improvement over time for me. I have 42 notes in CT on 14 different dN WA wines. According to my notes, the ones that I have found to improve over the course of a year or two are:

N166 Meritage
N86 Merlot
N88 Syrah
N141 Cabernet
N142 Malbec
N99 Syrah
N240 Cabernet
N85 Cab Franc

Hey Bob
I would never discount your notes of course, thanks for the data points
Ive had seven out of eight of those. I did not mean to dispute that maybe one would like any one better after a year or two.
I just didn’t see any of them that said no way I’m not drinking another for 3 years. I just have never basically found any dN wines to be that closed shut…

I wonder why a $60 retail wine fits the bill for such a “big fall offer?” (Lot 495)

Yah doesn’t do anything for me. But if it was a $60 shiner for $17, I’d be interested.

Bob - my fav of almost all the dN bottlings was the N142 Malbec…every bottle was stellar and enjoyed whenever popped!

Paralysis by analysis. It’s the original wine at 25% of the price. Can’t go far wrong

But is it?

Says it is direct from the wineries barrels. Does not say it is the same blend as anything the winery actually sells. Does not sound like it is Necessarily the same blend the winery releases.

Could be a concoction by dN itself from different varieties.

There is some wording that indicates that it is an actual wine they sell:

  1. it’s a favorite among critics that’s steadily picked up 90+ vintage after vintage

  2. We can’t reveal the exact varietal percentages

The discount doesn’t appear that impressive but it does state over $60 so is it between $60 and $100?

Just off the top of my head, 25, 40, and 50. I’m just starting to check in on those now. Most of the cabs have improved significantly with cellar time. ymmv.

This feels like another rehashing of the “what does shiner really mean” conversation, but how can something ordered anonymously through a middle man qualify as “finest provenance”?

I think you nailed it. I was leaning Jordan but after looking at your find:

Varietal matches
Oak Aging matches
Open- Top fermentation
Price match

Then I found this…“our best hillside vineyard are stressed, causing the vines to put every ounce of their energy into ripening the grapes, producing small berries bursting with rich, concentrated flavor.”

dN descripton- “Low-irrigation practices stressed the hillside vines, leading to immensely concentrated fruit”

RY- “We handpicked all our Cabernet Sauvignon early in the morning”

dN- “fruit that was hand-picked in the early morning hours”

I don’t think this stuff will be ready to drink for maybe 5+ years so keep that in mind.

Matt,
One of my favorite affordable Cabs (vs Napa) has been the RY Scion. This is the standard Cabernet, but agree, this is likely a very reasonable price for ageable Cabernet w/o the Napa “tax”.

Hi Norm, I only have purchased only a few Lots post Cam, but I did pull the trigger recently on Lot 490 Napa 2022 Cabernet to see how the new regime is doing. I decanted for 4 hours then tasted. It was really pleasant, good fruit, not too dry, reasonable depth, relative soft and round with minimal tannin. Didn’t taste manipulated. So my confidence in purchasing again has gone up a bit. Cheers, Peter

Although i didn’t buy 490, I have bought a number of post Cam dNs but only tried the 2017 shiner, lot 478 I think. I’m reading more and more reviews like yours of young wines being tried upon receipt and getting good reviews. So far, I’ve been waiting until the shock period is over or even longer to taste. Maybe I should re-consider trying early.

Just picked up my box of 500. Can someone post the details for it - it’s already deleted from the website. That’s so annoying. I don’t know why they can’t leave the details up, at least for a couple months.
