Just got shipping notification for #500. It’s record setting heat in southern california the next 48 hours. Would it really kill them to ship this next week?
Ditto Matthew!
Really Hot here too….very fast shipping, no sign yet of #493 however.
On a positive note, oh, um, can’t really think of anything……
They instantly replied. Too late to stop the shipment. Really absurd. It’s after Labor Day, was I supposed to pay for summer shipping for them to hold it a week till the heat wave is over???
I ordered 500 as well. I don’t remember seeing a hold option but I could have missed it.
I mean, it’s after Labor Day. What exactly would the ‘summer hold’ be? lol
Fwiw- went to try to buy 499 and this pop up showed up right after you click checkout. Seems like hold would be till end of October, which is great for those of us in the south. I’m pretty sure I didn’t see this for 500 but I could be wrong.
Yah, they also have ice packs, but it didn’t cross my mind cause the shipping route from Napa to San Diego is almost ALWAYS fine. This is just the hottest week - ever? So you’d think they would consider that when shipping something purchased 2 weeks ago as a futures offer. It’s fine, wine ruined or not, whatever. They said it was shipping this week so it’s on me I guess.
Whaat? Not hijacking the thread, but maybe daily weed and economics don’t mix.
Just sayin’ . . .
Cam is still there!
The filtration will protect it, no need to worry!
Ok sleuthers, can anyone name this wine? It comes with a 95 score from JD, so that and what you see is the only info.
150 MSRP for 95? Are they kidding me? ![]()
Worlds end Missouri hopper fits the bill
Matt, I too am extremely frustrated with this situation. The “hold” option was not offered when I place the order. A day later I emailed and request the hold option. I purchased, but now they are telling me, it didn’t get approved in time, so the shipment was processed. I too live in SOCAL where the temps are very high. I was told to lay the wine down for 3-4wks in order for the wine to recover, in addition to see if any of the corks are pushed up…All I got was, “can’t” delay the shipment and got issued a credit for the “hold” invoice…
To muddy the waters:
I ordered two cases via separate orders. First order had no prompt. Second did.
Disclosure and feel free to disagree (and refrain from trying to change my mind): I’m a skeptical of the heat damage claims during shipping with recent vintage wines, unless it’s been sustained. 90 in you area for a day or two does not equate that the liquid in the bottle hit 90 and certainly for not any sustained period of time.
I actually have no view on how heat damage works - I just know that the next 48 hours from NoCal to SoCal in a truck thats not air conditioned is gonna be CRAZY hot. The worst timing of shipping wine, ever. I just don’t get the rush. Do it Monday? Doesn’t seem to be a rocket science thing here. These aren’t bottle shop wines. They were #500 and a futures offer - clearly nobody is dying to get their hands on this 2022 cabernet to pop it open!
Agreed. dN has done it before…
…and you (and I) keep buying.
This one is just weird. And it’s not Cameron’s dN.
But in their defense, the offer said “shipping this week!” or starting to ship this week. I just didn’t think twice about it cause why would they ship in literally record heat? Just wait a week? Nobody got a brain?
New crop coming in. Gotta clear the excess.
ONE WEEK!?!?! For $15 they were happy to hold the cases for 4 months! Pretty sure they can hold it for a week. Just sloppy execution on their part. Nobody thought about it (I certainly didn’t!). There is really no time during the year I’m not ok with shipping from NoCal to SoCal, even in the summer. But this is a record heat wave!
