De Negoce offer (Part 2)

I think 479 is Handley

Not familiar with Handley Pinot. Is it worth the purchase?

I would say yes, they make terrific, well balanced Pinots for sure. Of course, mine is just speculation, I could well be wrong about the source. Just felt like a good fit (small production, somewhat low abv, and price point matches pretty closely)

According to what I’ve read, those cases are being auctioned off as part of bankruptcy actions - they would not be available for dN or anyone else right now . . .

Interestingly, that auction has 2020 shiners and 2022 wines in barrel. It seems like they found a buyer for the 2021 shiners…

Correct @PhilP ! Also cases of 2019 and 2020 Pinot with the Dupuis label on it.

Sorry @larry_schaffer , but there is no 2021 wine available in that auction.

This deal could have been negotiated before dumping the rest to the auction.

Or we could be chasing a red herring and it’s got nothing to do with Dupuis.

I’d be surprised if there is an NDA with a bankrupt winery. They could just say what it is.

Thanks for the correction - good to know . . .

Happy sleuthing all

After some sleuthing. Its not Dupuis unless the blurb is a lie.

Could it be the same producer as the previous Anderson Pinot, N.125/126?

Given the callout in the write up I think that’s not unreasonable…

Domaine Anderson is a corporate entity owned by Roederer. Might not fit ā€œfamily estateā€ as neatly as others…? I’ll know soon as my wine ships what the producer is.

Lot 479 is fulfilled, that means it’s shipped and could arrive tomorrow. Am I olbliged to pull a cork?

Happy Friday.

Looking forward to your impression of this wine. Not a lot of info online about this label. I’m sure your review will persuade the PN buyers one way or another. I always love a good Anderson Valley PN.

According to their ad spin we will will knowingly nod in approval once you see the cork …well I have never heard of them and if I had bit I would not be nodding now

OK, let’s drum up some controversy. These came today.

419 has a dN cork, as expected.

462 and 467 have a Martin Ray cork. That’s…pretty strange no? The shiner is from Martin Ray? The owner of dN?

But the real problem I have is 470. That has a Courtney Benham cork. Courtney Benham is the owner of Martin Ray Winery. So all three are Martin Ray wines.

The offer is very light on details and does not give a price of the OG winery but says ā€œFrom the source cellar, and aged on-site, this is a ready-to-drink gem for a fraction of it’s original price under our label.ā€ They also say it got 93 points.

They are selling it for $41 a bottle.

Here is Courtney Benham’s wine offerings:

There are only a few 2021 Napa Cabs. The only one w/ 93 points is: Courtney Benham Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Napa Valley

It sells for $50 and was selling for $29 (before discounts) at Wine Access.

Sure, it might not be this, but the other 2 that are more expensive got 94 and 95 points from JS.

The cork also says ā€œTerroir Expression Seriesā€ which from a google points to the $50 ($29) bottle.

Ok, let’s go! What does everyone think here?
