De Negoce offer (Part 2)

I was able to check out via safari on a Mac, but not from my iPhone due to a shipping address issue.

My first order since last year, since the provenance is clearly established I have confidence in the quality of this wine.

I was thinking the same, but it says ā€œCabernet Sauvignonā€

Maybe if you were to pick it up, it would be the cuvee?

ā€œThe 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain incorporates 18% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot and has classic mountain aromatics as well as tannins. Blackcurrants, blueberries, scorched earth, bouquet garni, and hints of espresso all flow to a medium to full-bodied, concentrated Howell Mountain effort that has building, firm tannins, good acidity, and the balance to evolve nicely. Give bottles 4-5 years and it’s going to keep for 15-20 years or more.ā€

That’s the RC Howell Mountain, and it is listed as $126 at the winery website

As for the ongoing Total Wine for $59 argument, I think it’s moot unless you’re in Wellington FL…

ā€œWe could not find this item at Corte Madera, CA. But we found it at Wellington, FL.ā€

The 2017 Robert Craig Howell Mountain Cab also had dual 93s from Dunnuck and Suckling. It has to be that one.

Well, there’s two strikes right there.

ā€œA solid 2017, showing a lovely core of blue fruit, raspberries and currants with some bark and dark chocolate. It’s full, yet not overdone with pretty length and focus. Very attractive now, but better in 2022.ā€

That is the 2019 you have linked… the 2017 can only be found in Mandeville, LA for $90:

Yea, just used it as an example because it was the first or second link on my search. That being said, from a vintage perspective, I would imagine the 2019 to be much more valuable/sought after than 2017, even if the latter has two more years of age. 2019 is widely held to be a much better vintage.

Honestly, this one is revealing a dilemma that I have. We currently only drink one or two bottles of red wine a week in our house. But I find myself defaulting to 2018 and 19 Napa reds (Plus other ones that I know I love like 175,230,240). Which means I have hundreds of Sonoma and Australian that I almost never default to…). Obviously, the benefit will be that eventually those cabs/syrah will be untouched and 10 years old….but as much as this seems to fit my patate, I’m setting my self up to waste a lot of wine in 10yrs.

I was surprised it was available in multiple South Florida locations, usually out of stock here and only available in places like California

That being said if it is RC HM CS, it’s a good buy for $30/bottle. Prior to 468, I think thought there was another bottling that was thought to be Robert Craig. Can’t remember which though.

K&L has the 2017 RC Spring Mountain in stock for $99. And it seems like the prices of RC Howell and Spring Mountain are relatively similar. In my mind I always take 30% off the Retail prices informed by dN in any wine, as they will of course always pick the highest price point. So $100 sounds about right as a reasonable comparison for the 2017 Howell Mountain cab.

In for six

Grabbed a case as I missed out on 468 and when the deliveries starting showing up the guesses were confirmed.

I let this pass. Just too much wine. But if anyone between San Antonio and Austin got it and missed on 468 (2018 RC) I’d be up for a direct trade of 3 bottles. No shipping. Maybe meet at a mutually enjoyable byob restaurant and share an appropriate bottle over lunch/dinner

Havnt touched my case of this. I enjoyed my 2 bottles of 2019 I got in a mixed case (can’t remember the lot # ) so I bought 3-4 cases of the 2021 on the pack clearance but didn’t love, which i attributed to them needing more time….guessing u are saying it’s good and i should try it out? I’ll dm if I try in the next few weeks and I decide to bail on them.
